Here's my problem. I have about six games that were sent to me by a relative the was stationed in europe (Hats off to the men and women of the United States millitary and allies stationed in Iraq). Up until a little while ago, I thought that something was wrong with my Ps2. when I would attempt to play the games, the screen would flicker up and down and the picture was in black and white. I found out later that this was due to the games being PAL. I have a Messiah 2 pro v1.33 installed and I was under the impression that it would allow me to play PAL regioned games; unfortunatley not.

I have tried just about everything with no success. I've wasted a ton of blank media trying to so call patch the games with a NTSC patch using ppf-o-matic, but it didn't work. After applying the patch, the games did not boot at all, unlike the originals which loaded but with flickering and b/w picture. I have a couple of games that my cousin left me while he visited for Thanksgiving. These games had a screen that came up that gave an option to play the game in NTSC, PAL, or PALGO. Not sure how it was done, but I'd choose NTSC and game loaded in color and centered. Is there anyone here who has actually patched, converted or did whatever to get a PAL game to play in NTSC. Can anyone tell me if this patching thing even works. There has got to be something that I can do to play these games on my Ps2.
If you are reading this post and you have successfully patched, converted, or did whatever to play a PAL game on a NTSC Ps2, please don't leave without helping me with this problem.

You must patch the game and have a TV which allows you to play PAL signals on it. This is why your games don't work. Most modern TV's have 2 SCARTs (Don't know whether you use SCART in the U.S.) but one will be able to convert the PAl signal after the game is patched. Try another connection in your TV and see if it works.

Actually all you need to do is patch. I dont have a tv which allows me to play PAL signals. But I do know how to patch.

Sometimes if you use blindwrite it puts too much data into the .bin file and that makes the size just a tad larger, thus throwing off the patch.

I have to use CDRWin in most cases to patch my games correctly.

I heard the one about patching the game and getting a TV that puts out a PAL signal and I don't understand that solution. In trying to understand patching, Why would you need a patch if you already have a TV that plays PAL. What I'm looking for is a way to play PAL games on a NTSC TV and Ps2.

Hey TylerDurden, What patch app do you use to patch your games. After your patch is complete, does it give you a similar screen option as the option I mentioned in my previous post:

These games had a screen that came up and gave an option to play the game in NTSC, PAL, or PALGO

I used ppf o matic to apply the patch and nero to burn the game.
Is it neccassary to use cdrwin. I have to use nero because cdrwin doesn,t recognize my DVDr/w-CDr/w combo drive. Can you tell me exactly how to apply a NTSC patch to a game or direct me to a site that will

If you try and boot a foreign import game, it won't boot without the patch. Patches which patch the region, (i.e.: PAL to NTSC) don't convert the whole game, they just patch the boot code so that the console thinks it is booting a game from it's region. It continues to boot the game, but it doesn't actually patch the whole game. That is still in PAL, so this is why you need a TV which can output PAL if you want to play imports from a PAL region. If it did patch the whole game, patches would be hundreds of MB's long (as big as the game), so patching would be pointless. Hope this helps...

P.S.: Check my site to see that you are burning the disc correctly...

I honestly dont know what ol' Lufcfan is talkin about because if you have a modchip and are backing up your import games your ps2 will play them no matter what region they are from.

Generally speaking, Pal to Ntsc patches usually just patch the basic video parts of the game. Most patch enough to play the game comfterbly. When I get my patches I get them from HERE (http://ps2chimps.ps2newz.net/) and I use PPF-O-Matic v3 just like you do. If I really need to I use the ADR patcher when there are no patches out for a particular game or if I just cant find one. Thats just a tad more difficult but once you get the idea its easy.

If you are still having trouble PM me a Instant Messenger username and Ill find you.

I drew my conclusions because when I patched something once, it wouldn't boot when it was patched in the wrong region in import mode. Therefore, I presumed when it was patched back (and it booted), then it must only patch the boot sequence because the rest of the game worked fine.

Sorry if I got the wrong end of the stick and just ignore the rest. Thanks for the correction, Tyler.

You know Lufcfan, what you described sounded a lot like the old PS1 modchipping days. Where some older chips actually required a region patch as well as a NTSC and Y-fix patch. I really dont blame you for that. Just think you were thinkin a bit further back than what we currently have before us.

Hmm, I think you're right - I was going a bit further back and getting confused. Thanks Tyler...
