I have no idea what I'm doing. I know a few people who are fairly good at soldering and was wondering which chip I should get. I don't want to send it to some one and let them install it for me.
I either want DMS3 or Messiah2. Which is most reliable and stands the least chance of messing up my PS2.
I have a US v7 PS2.
Thanks, I just found this forum today and dont know much about mod chips.
i also heard duo is a very good chip for the v7 and it only has 17 wirse to solder u may want to check into that and its a very good price chip i belive under 20$

Well If you NEED the extra features of the DMS3 then go with it. Do a search on google to find out what these are. However your version 7 will boot flawlessly with the messiah 2 chip. The DMS3 is more money so if you don't need the features then go with the messiah 2. Hope this helps.

EVOEvo, I can't find any info on the duo chip.
orion731, To be honest I don't know what some of these features are. All I want to do is play PS2 (and maybe PS1) back-ups and copied dvds. I am going to get SOCOM so I want to be able to play online with it.
I went to dms3's website and I dont know what PS2reality is but I like the idea of Firmware Upgrade.
Do you think the Messiah 2 will work for what I want to do?
thanks for your help.
u might have to ask tylerdruden i know he installed one so i know he can prob tell u were to get the duo chip

You can find all information about the DUO-chip here.
www.duomodchip.com
and a reseller is www.evolutionmods.com <--- $14.99 including shipping.

The Best feature of the Dms3 is that you can boot certain applications off your ps2 memory card. (Such as PS2 reality media player) The ps2 reality media player allows you to play divx movies and mp3's on your ps2. You can also use this with basically any mod but you have to boot it with a disc. The Flashabilitly of the chip is a nice feature though.
The messiah 2 chip will boot everything that the dms3 does all with no hassle. Basically performs like a unmodded console in the aspect that you put in the game and it boots. With the exception of p21 games which require one extra step.
As far as playin socom online, every chip will be needed to be put in "sleep mode" because the chip is detected. This means you will need to use your original to play this game on-line. Both the DMS3 and the messiah 2 have this feature.
As far as the install, both the DMS3 and the messiah 2 are hard to solder, the solder points are small and there is no room for error. Even though it's going to cost you more money, most installers guarantee their work. Hope this helps.
For you I would recommend the Messiah 2 chip.

Well if you don't know what the features of the DMS are you probably want need them - most don't.
DMS is a good chip but for plain game booting - reliability and ease of install EVOevo is right - go the 17 wire DUO.
Very cheap!
Also go by the reseller list on the Omega teams web site as quoted: www.duomodchip.com
Evolution sells ripped clones of the DUO not originals. hence the price!
modchips.cc is good - they include free shipping and only supply the real thing.

I bought my chip from www.modchips.cc. THeir support was also very nice and cooperative when emailed.

thanks....I will look into the duo chip. If it works for what I need it for, which it sounds like it does, it will be cheaper and give me 5 or 6 less chances of frying my PS2 when soldering.
Have any of you soldered your own chips? My dad has soldered alot of stuff before but never used a .1mm tip or anything that small. We have one of those big magnifying glasses with a light on a stand we can use to get a close up on what we are doing.

well I use a 0.4mm tip and have no problems but then I have been soldering for years - the 0.8mm tips of my weller was to big though.
as you sound like you will need some help - new etc...
check out the suggested tools and tips listed here:

are you sure?
The pictures of the chip on modchips.com doesn't look like the DUO chip at duomodchip.com
It should say DUO on the chip... as far as I know anyway.
Well, maybe it is just an erlier version of it..

ummm modchips.com leads to a dead page by gamegizmo saying gone out of business...
so not sure what picture you are refering to...
The DUO has not got any "earlier versions" as far as I am aware - the current version is the first and only release under the DUO name.
Evomods has proposed to release the code to all... which is nice of them considering from all accounts it is not theirs to do so...
but who knows who has made what now a days - People keep releasing chips under different names - and I don't really claim to know exactly what is going on behind the scenes... so maybe they bought the rights...

I don't know either, but the function is the same and for me the price is the samt too...
19.99$ is almost the same that 14.99 euro.
differ very little so modchips.com can have my order.....
The main thing is that I get a chip that works.. :)

Modchips.cc take $19.99 and Evolutionmods take $14.99 / 14.99 euro.
Both have free shipping.
But I live in sweden and then evolutionmods wants payment in euro so then it will be a very small diference in price.
$19.99 is about 146sek and 14.99euro is 136sek
7sek = $1
The answer is Yes i mean evolutionmods.
and if you check the images evolution and duomodchip has then they look alike but modchips.cc pictures and duomodchip does not look alike...
but hey.... who knows... not claiming either of them to lie about the chips origin......

yeah - I now see what you mean!
But I can confirm that the DUO's sold by .cc are not looking like their picture - they have obviously taken a shot of a prototype that they tested and have not bothered upgrading the picture since.
you can see on my page a picture of the DUO as actually supplied by .cc

Ok
Well.. I have talked to modchips.cc and I think I will order soon.
You know, I always want the noripped version.
and if it only cost me so little more then there is no problem.
