Ive never noticed this problem before with any drive ive ever used.

Ive been using the pioneer 106 for maybe 2 months now with no problems.
But all of a sudden now i notice when i put in a CD either an original or a Cdr copy , the machine cannot detect it. If i try to play the cd in windows the tracks wont appear. Also if i explore the cd through the dvd rom icon in my computer folder all i get is a track 1 icon in there, no other tracks showing up. When i insert a film or a playstation dvd i dont get this problem.

I would guess this is some kind of software problem confusing the drive??? Surely if the laser was starting to fail it simply wouldnt read anything right?

i have had this problem before with a cdrw drive and had to remove the drive and all software associated with it. boot up without the drive in, did a shut down, then re installed drive and software, and it fixed it on mine. you can try this and see if it works for you.
could be virus activity, or a worm of some sort too. try scanning with a anti-virus programm as well.

Thanks for the advice.

It seems to be the anyDVD program.

Some sort of bug that means you have to have the program running to play audio cds in windows m.e

It shouldnt be a problem i dont think , i burned a cd with that program running in the background and it seems to work ok.

Doesnt seem to work properly with creative labs software though.

well if it works thats good stuff but the only other alternative i can think of would be to do a format and then reprogram it completely but that would be extreme. you probably dont want to do that if you dont have to. sorry i could not help more.

i program/build computers in my spare time, and can tell ya, win me is my last choice. it crashes to often. you should consider win98se or xp if you ever decide to change up on the software.
if you ever need good prices on computer parts consider contacting me. i have alot of good contacts and i dont deal with illegal garbage either.

Yea i know windows m.e is a waste of time.

The only reason im using it is because when i had win xp pro on my machine it was extremely slow.

heres the spec

amd 750

256 ram

40 gig hard drive.

strange i thought xp would have been ok on that.
