I am trying to burn Max Payne 2, but I am having trouble. I have tried burning other games in the past, and there might be a problem with by CDRom drive, so I have been reading and writing with my burner. I know the No-CD key is available, but I want to make a usable backup. An old article on GCW said to burn at 1x, but that takes forever. I am using the newest version of Nero, but I want to know if there is a way to read and write from the same drive (make an image, insert blank cd, then burn image). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think that you have no chance with Nero. 'cause it cant get pass the protection.

Search in the forum for Protection ID and Alcohol 120%.

Thanks for the advice. Protection ID detected SecureRom 4.x (NEW), but Alcohol 120% wasn't able to burn it and be able to use the game. Any other ideas?

What brand of burner are you using? I have a lite-on burner and had no problems backing up my copy of MP2. Just select SecureRom 4(new) on both read and write options and you should be fine. Do you have the latest copy of A120%?

well i too tried to make a backup of mp2. Disc 1 no problem than the play disc had a nag in it. I eventually said screw it and used the nocd crack. I finished the game last night and will shortly uninstall it b/c there really isn't any replay value of the game. Except max going against hordes of peeps trying to kill him...it gets old fast. So my 2 cents use the nocd cause the game is short.

Geez, you buy games you dont have time to play yet? I wish I had that kind of budget.

I think he was refering to playing in the different modes causing more enemies. And there seems to be alot of people who say the game was way too short. But short is better than drawing something out way too far.

Don't get me wrong graphics wise and story this game rules...blows the first one away. I think that any game without multiplayer feature has a shelf life that ends once the game is finished. So ya play on :)
And nope i didn't give away the ending...i'd be a real dork if i did hehe...also you'd have probly edited me hey Krondike lol

I am using an older HP 9100 8X4X32 burner, but I think my CDRom drive has trouble creating the image correctly. I have tried in the past to burn other games, but I ended up having to read and write from my CD-RW drive. That seemed to work fine, but I haven't tried doing that with A120%. Incidentally, I have A120% version 1.47 (Build 1005) - Trial version. If anyone knows where to get a full version for free, I would appreciate it.

Buy it. It is one of the best at the moment.

Have you tried to read on lower speeds?

I apologize for asking for "free software". Won't happen again. However, I would like to confirm that I can select my burner to be the "source" drive, as well as the burner. As I mentioned, I have problems getting a good image from virtually any CD I try to burn. I haven't looked at Alcohol to see about changing the source drive, but I will. Also, what is the difference between the various versions of Alcohol (120%,50%, etc.)? I wouldn't mind buying it if it will work for what I want it to do. Also, is Alcohol's website the only place to buy the software?

hey np... well till one of the heavies see it than your in for it hehe..till than :)
ya i started using my cd/rw for making images and it works awesome. I'm using an A-open 52x24x52 so i'm not sure about HP burners. I used to have a couple b4 and they seemed fine for minor burning but imo i haven't tested them with Alcy 120%.
As for the different versions...dunno head to their website for further info.
But i can't rant enuf about what a great proggy 120% is..You won't be sorry. However from time to time some chit just doesn't wanna burn...thats life :|

Okay, here is the deal, I have Max Payne 2, but when I go to burn it (using alchohol 120%) I put the cd in (after it's burnt) and it is supossed to autorun as the normal REAL copy of the game would. Well it doesn't. This does'nt bother me, but when I go to explore the cd and run the "setup.exe" or "install.exe" it pops up with a dos promt and then the window dissapears. Weird, yes, but I continued exploring the cd and found a "demo32.exe" in the "bin" folder, I run that and it asks me to choose a "dbd" file, and there is a "mp2inst.dbd" file in that same folder. SO, I go and run that and it pops up with the Max Payne 2 windows, YAY! but when I click the "install max payne 2" button, the window goes away and nothing happens...... not so yay......

Any ideas on what is cousing this?

Don't use Alcohol 120% ether dump or burn SecuROM 4.8 versions.

Max Payne is SecuROM protected if I didn't get the wrong idea. And the only way to make a copy, but not screwing you CD up, is to copy the hole cd to a harddriver map and burn it like a normal CD. label as it label in the original. That's the only way to make a good working image.

Ruimors say that it gose to make a perfect 1:1 copy, and some internet thing showing how. I've test it all, but it don't works. But if you wanna trie, go ahead, but the information you might need, is on you own to seak and find!

Alcohol isn't very good for backing up New Securom titles..use Blindwrite with a good .bwa file and and you'll have no problem

Blindwrite isn't good ether!

But all depands on what Dump-reading machine you use (cd-reader/burner, dvd-reader/burner) and CD-Burner you use.

I can't backup new SecuROM if I use Blindwrite I can't mount the file becuase it isn't a good image. But try the hell you whant, read the backup guides or use google, or do what I told you before!
