I'd like some opinions! :D

What are the main differences between a ps2(modded) and an xbox(modded)?
Is it mostly the harddisk, mp3-, divx- and vcd player?

All opinions are welcome....

thanx

Well the difference between a modded x-box and a modded PS2 are as different as the two machines them selves. A modded modded x-box opens up many features the PS2 doesn't even have since the x-box is really a PC based machine. It really depends on what you are looking for out of a console. As for me I am a PS2 man. I love all the game titles the PS2 has to offer.

The X is more like a computer, that allows you to do a lot more extra things than what you could do if you have a ps2. You would have to be very computer savy to do it or be able to consume all the information on how to do so. Its also very nice to have an endless supply of memory instead of buying all those memory cards.

With ps2 it is basically a very good gaming system. You have literally hundreds of titles to choose from from all ranges of the spectrum too. Plus if you want you can play old ps1 games too.

I could probably go on and on about both but I have a bit of a memory block and maybe other users will post their input too.

I have both and play games on my xbox more than i do on my ps2.

In my opinion, if you like more rpg (not the dungeon and dragon battle rules though, bother systems have their share of that) type games go with a ps2, if you like more fps type games, go with an xbox. I find that i play my xbox more because of the fps that are on it. Im not saying that the ps2 doesn't have its share of fps's, just that i think the ones on xbox are a little funner.

Each system also has their own share of adventure and platform games, rpg and fps are the ones that you can see with a noticable difference. Also like said above, PS2 has definately more games for all ages, plus you can play ps1 games on it. That is another thing to consider.

Another thing I like about the X is the new smaller controller. Dudes, this one kicks ass! I think I even like it better than the ps2 one. I seem to keep making excuses to play xbox games just for the controller. LOL.

Although I am more of an RPG fan and will probably always stick to the PS2 as my top choice I really have nothing bad to say about the X.

Yeah the RPG thing. I've bitched about so few RPGs on Xbox before since there arent many at all.

I just dont get it. Most RPGs are just variations of the same style we've been playin for years and MS just cant seem to come up with one!?

My 2 cents - PS2 has the advantage in game variety and Xbox has the advantage for everything else.

You buy a games console to play games on. For the sheer choice, peripheral support and broad appeal etc, go with a PS2.

Plus, the DMS3 opens up many new horizons to the PS2. The XBoX is too much like a PC computer and this shows in the sales charts.

Plain and simple opinion from me - Go with the PS2 - You won't regret it! :D

Im not trying to sound like a fanboy, but saying the xbox is like a pc has nothing to do with the gaming experiance. I mean, if you really want to get technical then the ps2 is just as much of a computer. The xbox just has more common components and put together simularly to what we might see in a pc. Besides, for what it's worth, being like a pc just means it can play games and be used as a multipurpose chunck of hardware. Like using it is a live streaming media player, or using it to watch vcd's and many other kinds of video/sound formats, without converting them to a common format. (as for sales, well, it is doing well in the US, but that is probably because the fanbase is more towards fps's unlike some countries like japan.)

When I see the new nokia game console with the 3d rendering, i don't say it sucks because it's a mobile phone, would u?

I forgot to mention one of the common features about the xbox too. I don't play online much, so i didn't mention it above. But from experiance, xbox live is no joke. It really is very good. Socom was really fun on the ps2, i used to play it alot at my friends house when it first came out, but after people started cheating it was just no fun :(

ps2 games are cheaper by the way, well, older ones anyway.

Ps2 is by far better. has everyone forgotten about ps1 vs n64? n64 had double the graphics but their lack of good games saw their demise. now xbox doesnt have double the graphics but they have a slightly better range of games. ask yourself, does xbox have the power to win this war? no they dont.

I have all three consoles. with the exception of the gamecube,(Kiddie console). I like both the PS2 and Xbox about the same, Few titles are available for PS2 that isnt available for Xbox. Fact is i have yet to play a EA sports game on PS2, ( Madden 2004, Nascar thunder ect), That the Xbox version didnt beat the PS2 version. While the PS2 does have a better and bigger library than the Xbox does right now the Xbox is getting better games every month.
Most people choose PS2 because of its backwards compatibality to PSX and the fact that the games are a little easier to backup. Both are great consoles and i dont see either going under anytime soon.

well, the average gamer doesn't play every game for thier console. So no matter which one is bought, the person will have fun playing no matter what because there is a large share of good games for each console.

Which brings it back up to being an rpg or fps fan

If you look at the release dates for both consoles, they both have a great game line-up (i suggest you do this to know what games u would want to play). Just because a system isn't selling well, doesn't mean it has crappy games. There is more to it in selling a console in just having good games. Look at nintendo GC, it has a very large share of good games. Many people don't even know about some of them because they just brush em off because they are not from a well know developer. Also, most of the rpg's on the systems aren't even brought to the US/EU because the fan base isn't as high (just go to an import site and look for yourself).

But i have to agree that ps2 has much more games.

People don't buy Nintendo because it is loaded with too many kiddie games.

I just dont buy Nintendo cause their support sucks as bad as Sega's always did.

Well.. I don't want to be shot on this section for posting this, but I do LOVE my xbox. Here's why:

First, the graphics on the XBOX seem to be so much better than the PS2, but the PS2 does have a lot more titles available for their console. It is true that a lot more games are being ported over, but you might have to wait a few months after the PS2 release. Even still, I prefer to wait as the picture just looks so much better.

XBOX is (imho) a lot harder to mod. The information is scattered and trying to get a simple solution is not always an easy task. BUT, depending on which modchip you choose to use, you can do this yourself with a solderless mod chip. Be prepared to learn how to flash the bios and install a new dashboard.

With the PS2 mod chip.. it's sort of a "don't try this at home" procedure for installing unless you are great with soldering (even then I wouldn't recommend it). So be prepared to send off your ps2 to get a professional to install your mod chip.

Once the XBOX is modded tho there are so many more options on what to do with it. Such as, installing a new hard drive in which you can put your games on and just play without having to put in a disk. You can stream anime/mp3s/pictures from your computer through the xbox to your tv.. which provides a really good picture. I take my xbox on all my vacation trips loaded with anime, games, and mp3s.

I guess in the long run though it depends on what you want in a console. If you want a truckload of games to choose from, then PS2 is the way to go. If you want a little less variety in games, but want more features to play with then the XBOX would be the choice.

Hope this helps

well i am a big fan of final fantasy and as far as i know, xbox will never have any ff titles on it. and BTW, the xbox's graphics are not SO much better. they are better of course (not by that much) but we all know that graphics do not make a game good. of course good graphics are great but whats the point if the control is poor, the gameplay sucks and various other parts of the game dont cut it? I know i'd rather have a game with slightly worse graphics if everything else is top notch, wouldn't you?

Playstation controllers ROCK!! I love em’, I use mine on my PC games too with Directpad pro drivers. All other controllers look HORRIBLE to me. Xbox controller looks like a cheap bloated mutations of a psx controller. I don’t know what gamecube was thinking at all, they should have stuck with the N64 controller!

That’s another thing I hate, every generation most companies make a whole new batch of crazy looking adapters, connectors and controllers, If you have a good thing going, Stick with it!! If Sony changes their controller/AV connectors with PS3, I think it will be a big mistake. There are adaptors that will run a PSX controller on an Xbox. Probably, If I got an Xbox I would buy a couple of those instead of buying any Xbox controllers.

Nobody has touched on quality yet. On the outside, I think both consoles look like utter crap!! As cheap as the PS2 looks on the outside, the inside is WORSE, it’s easy to tell Sony cut major corners to bost profits with PS2. Especially with drive assembly / laser assembly, and drive not being sealed from airflow and dust, motherboards that die if you drop the console 2 feet, pure junk through and through!

From what I can tell, the Xbox gives you far better quality under the hood, A sealed DVD drive like a PC, the fact that it has a Harddrive alone is far better value not to mention CPU power.

Hardware is nothing without software. The bottom line comes down to games. They are games consoles and unfortunately for Xbox, they fall short where it counts the most. The fact is, I just haven’t seen any Xbox games that make me want to run out and buy another console. A few games look good but just isn’t enough for me, for now!

The answer for the Xbox RPG question is simple, look who’s making the games, Playstation is an original Japanese console. Xbox is an American.

exactly, which is why most of the rpg's are from american companies. Too bad niether of them are the traditional rpg fight styles.

As n what you said about the xbox controller; would that make the psx one a cheap bloated mutations of the snes controller? Besides, the xbox s-controller is not cheap. I had if not too long after it was released and still nothing is wrong with it. I've had 2 psx/ps2 controllers break (as in button sticking or having to press down very VERY hard to use em) within the first 4 months. Same goes for my friends (not both though).

I still say xbox for multiplayer, ps2 for single player. Thats pretty much how it is at my home.

Carin'sboy, this is what I suggest you do. Scroll through a list of ps2 games and then a list of xbox games, after that, look at the future releases. Don't look at how many games there are, but rather look at which games you think or know are appealing to you. The size of the list does not matter much because you won't buy every game for the consoles (unless your filthy rich, in which case u should just buy both consoles).

Can a PS2 expert put some things down on what the ps2 can do after modding (other than play backups and imports, like emulators, vcd etc...). I haven't followed the PS2 scene much. The question was asked but it seems only the xbox part has been answered.

Its not FF7-2. Its called FF7 Advent I have the japanese trailer for it and basically all it is is FF7 with redone graphics. Still looks amazing though.

I still like the xbox smaller controller no matter what people say. I think it fits better and I love those triggers on the bottom.

If you mean Final Fantasy VII - Advent Children, it's a 60 minutes CG movie that will be released at Summer 2004 in Japan.

I read in Game Informer magazine that Square Enix announced a ff7 re-release. The ff7: Advent Children was a bonus disk that they might include. They then stated that details of whether it will only play on a ps2, be a normal dvd, or also sold seperately were not given.

also wanted to state that if this was true then get a ps2 lol, cus ff7 is the best rpg i've ever played. I would definately get this game.
