backing up to hard drive

When backing my games on a premodded xbox with larger hard drive do I need a dvd drive on my pc, so it'll see what's in the game cd

y would u need one on ur pc?
u can do it directly off the xbox itself
or if u want
u could go through the xbox dvd, to the pc, back to the xbox
