stupid question from a newbie!!

why do people update the firmware on DVD-R's?

I've got a A03 that I've just installed. Getting my PS2 modded at the weekend.....

what does updating the firmware do? Make the drive faster?

I'll be using Alchohol 120% to burn.....

Matt.

....and yes some firmware revisions remove read speed limitations, so it can significantly improve your read-in times.... :)

also, the dvd region lock code can be removed by reflashing your firmware with certain revisions (look for RPC-1 in the description)

look here (http://pioneerdvd.rpc1.org) for updated firmware revisions for the A03.

matt_ncfc,

And since you have an AO3 you may want to update the firmware because if you put a 4x dvd blank you will burn out your drive. Thats what a firmware on your drive fixes.
