My first experience trying to make a Divx video was not pleasant. Some flaky program running a dozen other flaky programs in the background, including this “virtual dub”, taking forever and not working at all.

Since then I’ve played with Reality player for MP3’s and I found a nice little program the converts my MPG video’s to DIVX with one simple click (Avi to Divx 1.3), Should be called MPG to Divx ! So I burned a couple short video’s to a CDR to test it, I tried Divx codec 4.0 beta, Mpeg 4 fast motion, Mpeg 4 video codec. All video’s play with Reality but all have WHORRIBLE sound !

Is it that the audio stream needs to be mp3 format? How do I do that without using software that will put me in a mental facility !? I installed Xvid codec but did not see any new codec in Avi2Divx. I need something fast n’ easy, pleasy.

Get Dr. Divx from here (http://www.divx.com/divx/drdivx/) , you can use it for 15 days for free and it's official divx product and very easy to use.
also it will install divx codec 5.1 automatically, so you don't need install divx codec seperately and also it's better that you uninstall perivious divx codecs.
Reality player support both mp3 and AC3 sound and one advice, keep your frame size under 640x480 (ex. 512x384) for smooth playback.

Success!! I gave Virtual dub another chance, V1.4c. load my mpg video, in Audio select full processing, compression mpeg layer 3, I selected 128 kbits. For video compression I selected Divx codec 4.12. saved as AVI file and Bam, files play with good sound. 1 of the 4 music videos I tried did mess up a bit in one spot, Audio echoed for a couple seconds (probably PS2 laser or buffer problem).

I’m testing VCD format files right now, size 352X240 or something like that. If I install Divx V5 codec, I’d like to be able to keep the option to make V4 codec files just incase Reality Player doesn’t play them. You can get some pretty good compression if your video is letterboxed.

I’ve read about people complaining that it takes over 12 hours to convert DVD to Divx, I figure I could capture a DVD video and convert a 120 minute video in less than 3 hours.

Does Reality player have enough splash screens or what!? You can make it play a video automatically by adding a txt file BUT after that video plays will you be able to enter the media browser or not?

Divx V5.1 works fine with Reality Player 1.50 and also has better quality when you use low bitrate.
time for converting a dvd to divx depends on your cpu speed, for me it takes 6 hours for converting a 3 hours dvd to divx with 2-pass encoding.
when you convert directly from VOB file, you get better quality rather than when you convert from captured video.

You can go back to browser screen by pressing "O" button when you playing the video.

I went to try an MP2 file and Virtual Dub would not open it! So much for high quality! Time to try Dr. Divx.Next time I have enough junk to full a CDR I’ll try making it Auto load a video. Wish they wouldn’t add “THE END” to every file.

PS2 Reality is worth every last cent, ( It’s free ;) !!

Seriously, they just need to clean it up a bit, awesome utility I think. I hope they keep working on it and releasing new versions.

And for God sakes, put a page up/down button in the Mp3 browser!!!
