hello,
I was thinking you know ps2 network adapter which allows you to play games on the net i was thinking will it know if you were playing a copyied game or have a mod chip installed?
Thanks
Seaneyb2003:D
Yes. New games released within the last few months have DNAS protection. It requires you to use your original online.

I believe the first PS2 game to have this was the Everquest beta version. The final release does not have it though. Weird huh?

Im still a little in the dark about this DNAS. Only the new games that came out with the DNAS in the last few monthes have this protection right. So like the older online games can still be played with a back up. Or is The DNAS like a server side thing that can be updated to check any online game?
Just newer games for the most part.

Protection on PS2 has always been there. But the online protection has just started.

no man..
my friend bought the nba live 2004 and play it online in a mod ps2 and it doesn't let him play and he call the tech support and the tech support told him that the game won't let him play online cus the mod chip.
he needs the no-mod ps2....
WDR
Did your friend disable his mod before going online?
I'd personally use an original [with mod disabled before going online] I never had a problem with DNAS doing that, going online with a backup disc is just playing roulette, you never know when...

@WDR
Your game is a new one. Just about all new games have DNAS. You can still play all old games without problems.

I just told my friend to try this method and he can play it online right now.
he bought a Real NBA Live 2004 and he is using Gameshark to boot others backup game. I told him to put the game in the PS2 and go to standby mode and quickly press reset three times to boot the game. This can disable the ModChip and the DNAS doesn't work and he can play now.
hope to share this to everyone.

Yeah dude, that is known. If you turn off your mod and use the original then you can play online. You cannot play these games as backups online.
Tyler!
dose it only detect the mod or dose it also read the game and know its a backup

So I do not have to worry about this DNAS thing if I do not plan to play a backup game online? What about a game that CAN be played online but offline as well?
TylerDurden
22-10-2003, 05:32
If you dont play online then DNAS cant get to you. Its only activated online. But if you have a new game that does have DNAS just use your original to play online with your modchip turned off. No need to have your modem as a paperweight.

If your chip is on and your playing your original youll get an error that wont let you finish connecting online. If you turn your chip off and use your original then youll be able to play online.

Oh, alright
I am not goign to get blacklisted or anything though right? All I have to do it turn the chip off and everythign is fine?
Thats no problem then, I dont dare risk playing a backup online anyway.
TylerDurden
22-10-2003, 13:50
I dont think youll get blacklisted. But to be on the safe side just stay within bounds and only use an original and turn off your mod.

Hmm...that's bad, but what about us here in Australia, where it is legal to mod-chip your playstation 2. It must be a new way for sony to stop people mod-chipping their ps2's even though the court ruled that it's legal to modchip here in australia
TylerDurden
22-10-2003, 21:05
In the states its not illegal to chip your ps2 either, as long as your chip doesnt have any copyrighted Sony code. But I guess Sony has to attack piracy somehow and since if you really own a game then I figure they think its ok for you to use your original once in a while.

Reminds me of the anti-modchip PSX games
Very stupid idea
Instead of the game checking ig its original, it checks if the psx itself is modded, and refuses to boot if it is. Meaning even ORIGINAL games wont boot on a modded psx. Thats when the stealth chips came in.

Actually the courts overturned the original decision now it's illegal to 'mod' a ps2 as it they deemed 'to be circumfenting the copy protection'

What about the fact that copyright protection prevents us form the right to make a single backup of any software we own?

to the courts it doesn't matter. they came to the conclusion that we have no right to make a backup of a disc.

Great, so basically they ruled in favor of companies getting money over us getting our rights.
