Dose it work with your original .exe file?

Its not the crack, its your video settings. Just like several games these days, TOEE is sensetive to your refresh rate settings.
In order for the game to run - you must NOT use ANY refresh rate-forcing utilities OTHER THAN DirectX's OVERRIDE feature.

It's not the refresh rate. I once got the game to run with the actual CD (it mostly fails on my system, because SecuRom doesn't like Thinkpads), and it ran... so my refresh rate and other settings are fine.

If I run the real EXE (5MB), it works maybe one time in twenty, sometimes..

If I run the nocd EXE (3MB), it plays the intro movies, then crashes.

There seems to be a lot of problems with the copy protection crashing the game. Try making a hard disk image with Alcohol120% (www.alcohol-software.com) and mount that, using no cracks. It might work this way, and I'm interested in any results.

I might. $50 is a lot to pay for *another* CD-ripping program, but maybe it's worth a try.

I downloaded a trial of Alcohol 120%, and had it read an image. The resulting image doesn't seem to work. Since I have to go do something else, I've set it to try making one using 1x for reading and DPM, maybe that'll work better. Maybe not.

Atari has *so* made my usability book as a case study. Jerks.

FWIW, I finally got it to work; looks like SecuROM now ignores Alcohol drives, but Daemon Tools can mount an image burned from Alcohol, and it works.

Finally I can play this stupid game! I've only had to spend something like $70 on tools to make it run at all. On top of $50 for the game.

Could be, that's called 'blacklisting', and usually A120% is beter at avoiding it than DT. If DT works, by all means keep using it. It's free, and I kinda like it, but it DID trash my XP install a few times when upgrading to a new version :D
