View Full Version : Oiling the CD Tray?

I was having a problem with my v4 PS2. The tray was 1/2 opening then closing. Then trying to open and not opening. I took it back to the guy who put the Mess.2 in it and he oiled the tray rails. He says it is working fine now. I get it back today and I was wondering if anyone had to do this to their PS2 at anytime? He said their was no damage to the Eject/Open Ribbon, which I thought could have been the trouble. P.S. This forum is excellent and I would like to thank all the people that have put in the time to answer all the questions. Zellar!

The v4 ps2 has this problem. I would just pull the PS symbol and help it come out with my old and now sold v4 ps2.

I think the V4 ps2s were the worst operating versions.

Never done this with my V4. It may need doing in the future though - who knows...

Yes,I was grabbing the tray and pulling on it. But I thought it was making things worse. Kinda' straining the mechanism. Hopefully the lube job will take care of this annoying problem. Maybe other v4 owners should lube it up before their's become 'F'@#ed-up!' HaHa!

Put your hand underneath the cd tray and go to the right hand side of it, you should feel a metal railing, get some petrolium jelly or something that is thick and slippery and apply some on it.

Dont use Petrolium Jelly, it can gum up sometimes. Ive had the same problem with my V4 PS2. Use some WD-40 on the small metal bar, but be sure not to get any inside the PS2.:)

i just wanted to add my 2 cents; the tray opens with a very special mechanism, first it moves the big white thing to the side, so it moves the laser down. then the white thing knocks the tray into the mechanism, which opens the tray. if you have tried to open the tray by yourself, things may have gone messed up, with the tray opening only halfway. in this case, you'd need to put the mechanism back together properly, with first taking the tray out, then putting the white thing so the laser is down, then putting the tray back in and sliding it to the end, and then moving the white thing back to put the laser right. then your mechanism is correct again.
