View Full Version : Backup
Hi everyone!
I need your help. I need to backup some ps2 games (originals); I did as the stickies but it didn't help.
I'm using RecordNow MAX 4.50 with a Toshiba SD-R5002.
Here is what I do:
- building the image at MIN speed
- write the image (test, Record and Verify) all at 1x
I'm using Traxdata DVD-R
When the process ends, I get the success message, but the game (Tekken 4) won't load even after many tries.
Any suggestions?

You can read at any speed - if it reads it's 100%. So fasted read is best.
On the burn, I always burn at the fastest speed for the burner using Traxdata or other Ritek media. I never Test/Verify. If that fails the disk's no good anyway and has to be trashed; so you might as well go for the burn only. If it comes to the end, it's fine.
If you have followed the tutorials, then you've prolly got a good copy of the game. Not just prolly - certain.
So it's now down to the interaction between your PS2 laser (which lens might need cleaning) and the lower reflectivity DVD-R. There's a Factoid explaining all this stuff here.
You can prove out your DVD-R by taking it to someone else with a no-swap modchip and see what happens.
What exactly does happen when you boot it?
What modchip?
What PS2 version?
Did you clean the lens?
I've a SCPH-30004 with a Messiah 2 on.
When I tried to load the game I got:
a- the initial screen (browser, config), but it's freezed
b- the game runs, PLAYSTATION 2 logo displayed but, after a while returns me to the browsing screen (with the memory card and the ps2 game); if I try to reload it just selecting from this screen I get this error again and again
c- sometimes (rarely) the ps2 not even recognize the disc and says to insert a ps2 formatted media.
I've never cleaned the lens, and I don't know how to do it
Sounds like a dirty lense. Go to www.amazon.co.uk or .com or wherever, and go to the PS2 section. Just look for a DVD Lense cleaner. It is a disc with brushes on the bottom and as it plays, the brushes clean the laser. They are really good. Hope this helps...
u can buy a cd lense cleaner on ebay for 3$ i did they want 10$ for one of them in a store i belive they work on dvds as well and charile_ps2 u said its better to read at max speed i always heard slower was better i wish i new this along time ago i could had my stuff made faster lol i got 2 Toshibas SD-R5002 in 2 dif pcs one will only make wroking ps2 games on 1x and the other will do on both i have not figerd out why but the 2x is done on a slower pc but if i burn games on 2x on fastest pc they will not load just stays at a black screen is this what ur haveing problems with ?
I always burn at 1x and read at min, because writing at 2x with my config. makes the disk unreadable for the ps2, I wonder why.
So I have to burn at 1x.
Sometimes some of my dvd backups run but only 1/20 tries and some of them don't even run at all
I'll try to clean the lense and I'll let you know!
so ur burner burns at 2x like mine but wont play in the ps2 thats the same problem i had i can use 1 pc with the same burner u got it burns at 2x but wont play but my other pc with the same burner burns at 2x and it will play its werid maybe my dvd burn needs a cleaning or its something on my pc or caue it was a refurb dvd burn but it plays my movies at 2x in my ps2 no probs at all how big was the game u tryed to burn at 2x i belive i burned a 1.5 gig game at 2x and it worked but i burn 2 copies of chaos legion at 2x neather will load on my apple chip just makes alot of noises and stays a black screen
I tried to clean the lensa but it changed nothing!
is tekken the only game u got that will not copy ? if so u might have a scratched tekken and my have to try backing it up with a dif disk my tekken 4 copyed just fine on the Toshiba SD-R5002

It is even easier than psx if you get a dvd burner. If not, it takes a lot more work. You can get one for around $150 now. Go with a Pioneer.

You do have a modchip, right? It might seem a bit stupid, but I've actually ran across quite a few people who try to backup their games, but don't have a modchip. If you are doing the (cringe) swap trick, you are aware you need a double swap with a DVD backup, right? If you have a swap modchip, are you using a game with a larger TOC?
Yes, I have a Messiah 2 PRO installed.
I had a NEO 2.2 installed for about 2 years. Could this affect in some way?
NEO 2.2 is known as laser killer, especially if you don't install the capacitor.
It seems you need a new laser unit.
