View Full Version : Problems with backups on Magic 3.1.....
I'm having major problems booting my backups on my machine, a 30004R with Magic 3.1... to be more specific, none of my backups are booting...
I'm using Stomp RecordNow MAX 4.5 and a LiteOn DVD+RW LDW401S dvd-recorder... it was cheap, it burns really fast... that's why I bought it...
I followed the guide here howto make ps2-backups using stomp... made most of the backups on a rw-disc, but some on Memorex DVD+R discs...
What is the problem?
Is my chip installed wrong? Or does my machine have problems reading +-dics?
Don't use -rw or Memorex +r. Both suck. Get yourself some -r and you should be all set.

That's the main problem, my recorder does not work with dvd-r/-rw, it only works with +r/+rw...
But ok, Memorex sux...
I have antoher brand of +r discs, arita, only costs 15kr (swedish price, about 1,8 US $ about the cheapest media in sweden...)
I have never tried burning any backups on them... but the main question; does ps2 have problems with +-discs?
Because my recorder only supports +discs not -discs...
Oh, and another thing...
Does the PS2 play dvd-movie backups without modchip?
If it doesn't, then my modchip works, if it does, then I don't know if my modchip works...
You don't need a mod to play dvd movie backups. Is your 30004R a v4, v5, or v6? If it is a v4 I would exchange your burner as v1-v4 tend to not like +r/+rw.

I have a V5 motherboard... or V6, I don't know, they're identical...
But for V5 and higher motherboards, the dvd+ media shouldn't be any problems?
Generally v5/v6 support +r ok, just don't use Memorex. Try some Ritek or Verbatim.

Ok, I'll try burning some new discs... if I follow the guide here in the forum on how to burn using stomp and it still doesn't work, then I can asume that my modchip doesn't work or is not installed correctly... or?

Try a PS2 CDR backup. If that works then the possiblilty is that your chip is working.

Try more than just one. But Im starting to lean towards thinking your chip may not be installed correctly.
Tyler!
Be sure you boot them right too by holding reset until the blue eject light comes on.

actually holding the reset button till the blue eject light turns on will make the ps2 enter psx/dvd mode
to boot ps2 backups with a magic3.1 just tab the reset button once the disc tray closes with the disc inside of course
can you play psx backups?
try to boot a dvd in ps2 mode to see what happens
That is what he is testing, psx games ATM.:)

u sure? I thought he was having problems with dvd+r and tekken tag, oh well sorry I missed that (too lazy to read the entire thread).
hey i don't really chat a lot online i just post here cuz i like the forum, so i don't know what ATM means?
ATM= at the moment. He couldn't get any dvd backups to work so he is now trying psx to see if the chip/install is screwy.

Tyler! :p
I know. But if he can test ps2 cdr games he might as well test ps1 games, if he has any.

LOL..... those are hilarious (maybe cuz it's the first time i see them):D
I cannot play psx games at all, not even european originals... dvd-movies boots just like an ordinary ps2-game... and none of my backups works... I've tried tekken tag, jak & daxter, final fantasy x, wrc and resident evil...
I have a 30004R machine, I don't know if there's any problem with magic 3.1 on that machine...
However, the only games I can play, are european original ps2-games... nothing else... and watch dvd-movies is also working....

I dont think your Magic 3 is installed correctly. You may want to look into that. Check for unconnected wires.
Tyler!
I have checked for unconnected wires, but there's none... I haven't installed the chip myself, I let som professionals do it, that's why I'm very dissapointed...
In my opinion, my modchip is not installed correctly or is not working properly... I took a look at the modchip when I was checking the wires and it was the red one, and the red one is an original right?
i have a Magic 3.1 and fortunately I had the benefit of being there and seeing it tested. If you cant even boot CDR's then yea I'm thinking theres something wrong with your installation. CDR's boot without even thinking about it - 100% everytime. DVD's on the other hand (im to cheap to get any RITEKS or PRINCOS - GQ's BABY!!!!!)

a red pcb is a characteristic of an original magic3.1
your ps2 acts like if there was no chip in it, so if you checked all the wires and none are lose (power or ground maybe) or in the wrong place then maybe your chip is dead, either it was like that to begin with or static could have killed it.
Since I got my modchip installed I haven't been able to play anything else than European Original PS2 games... not even original psx games worked after the installation of the modchip...
But if the chip is dead, then it wouldn't affect my ps2 at all... or does it anyway?
