View Full Version : GTA Vice City nocd problem!

Hi, I am currently using the no cd crack and when I replace my gta-vc.exe with the cracked one, all that happens is my cursor turns to a timeglass for a second , and no application opens, when I check my processes, it shows the .exe being executed, but after that second after I 2x click the icon, it dissapears from the process screen and then if I try to execute the program again... same prpblem of the .exe dissapearing, its like nothing is happening or another program is shutting it down when I try to start it!
*** The funny thing is, it was working on wednesday (Today is friday) and after leaving my computer for a day, it doesn't work anymore. My kid was playing around with my computer the day I was away but he is harmless and just plays a football game, he doesn't even know vice city is installed on my computer, but I doubt he did any harm to my computer at all, (ie: trojans/viruses) I even checked my norton, and did a full scan, no errors or viruses.

What i've done: Reinstalled the game serveral times, the typical resetting of the computer, I tried download the crack from serveral websites, same result.


Help me out guys!

ah, found out the problem, for some reason for saved games, they created a folder on the drive where my windows is installed (opposed to where gta was in installed) under the name "GTA Vice City User Files" for saved game files, and i just had to delete that folder and it worked and presto... messed up but it works now.

I really hate it when games do these personal folders! I have hacked both GTA3 and GTA:VC to store files in the "SAVEGAME" directory inside the game directory. I think both patches are available on GCW...

when i double click on my gta-vc icon - my cursor shows the loading icon...but nothing opens:eek:. I've tried restarting the computer. I played yesterday, it was working just fine.

chances are, that thats a 'bad' thing now joe, with windows vista, uac and all that.....

GCW doesn't seem to host no-DVD patches for this game; read the PC Games forum FAQ for other sites.

If I remember well the Gimprus blood no cd patch worked fine ( can't remember well I haven't played the game like in 2 years by now)

just delete "My Documents\GTA Vice City User Files\gta_vc.set" and setup the game again.
Dunno why this happens, but it fixes the bug for me, every time...

DO NOT delete "GTAVCs?1.b" files... they are savegames.
