Has anyone come across this prob ?

Did full install from original disks... load game and when get to the save file screen I find it is scrolling uncontrollably.

The only way to enter the game is to remove the joystick in the control panel of Win98 but then only k/b and mouse is usable.

I have tried this with original game install and also using the nocd crack by Razor... same result.

My joysticks are MS Freestyle Pro & Gravis Xterminator... both behave the same way... they are gameport connect joysticks.

My Thrustmaster wheel works fine but that is USB connect so it must be some prob related to gameport but I have reinstalled drivers etc. with no luck.

Please someone help or point me in right direction as I want to play the game with my joypad (preferable the Freestyle Pro)

thanx
vik :(

If it makes you feel any better, yeah I had same problem.
I use a DirectPad Pro adapter to connect a PSX DualShock2 to my PC. First game I ever had a problem with it, after 4 years of using this thing. I sent an e-mail to the tech support department, and got a bunch of crap back. Anywho, I bypassed the problem by connecting a cheap USB adapter I had kicking around to connect the PSX pad instead. I figured the problem was specifically related to the DPP drivers, but you have popular commercial products!

So it appears it doesn't like a certain configurations, or driver types rather than it being a glitch with your computer's setup. I'm sure a patch will be released eventually. A half ass support page can be found here (http://www.take2games.com/index.php?product=155%2C3%2CMidnight+Club+2%2CPC%2 CRockstar_Games%2Cmc2&p=support)

Take a look at this:

Possible step in the right direction.. ~shrugs~

Edit: Or not... wrong product. There's a USB version of this on the market...I'll poke around some more.

Ideally, RockStar just need a kick in the butt...

I have emailed Take2 support but got a really crappy half-assed automatic reply that babbled on about Logitech Wheels and made no reference about the problem with joysticks.

This is very lame and I had expected more from the company that brought the classic Vice City out.

Perhaps fame and fortune has gone to their heads ?

It is absolute ****e that a joystick/pad cannot be used in this game.

pissed off

I have a PSX DualShock2 that connected to parallel port, like wishmaster_xp, but my OS is winxp and works fine with this game.
It seems this game has gamepad problem in win98.

I'm using WinXP just the same, with the psxpad.com drivers installed.

I just refer to it as DPP, based on its' roots. All the NT drivers are based on the schematics Earl designed for DPP.
But I agree, it seems to be a problem based on gameport based hardware. DPP emulates it's input through the Gameport joystick device, regardless if one is present.

Anywho, off topic. I'm not helping the problem. >_<
Why not buy a cheap USB solution also? They cost around $10-15 bucks US. A lot less hassle then dealing with Rockstar imo.

Also let it be noted, Midnight Club was designed by "Rockstar San Diego" vs. their NYC&Vienna branches. This is this first title, as far as I'm aware.. so blame them.

Of course the tease will be you'll wait it out in hopes of a patch...then give up, and buy something else, only for the elusive patch to surface after. Sick world.. >_<

Anywho, good luck. Wish I could offer something else.. =\

Just occured to me, we're not exploring the common ground.

What gameport are you using to connect your pads?
And what drivers? WinXP's default, or CD/downloaded?

I'm using a Audigy Platnium eX, which has this silly gameport plug dangling from IO cable connecting the extension card, to the Audigy drive external box. It's there, "just to say it's got one." The "fixed" Audigy2 driver suite is installed, updated to the latest .383 build

thx for the input.... and yeah it is developed by Angel studios nto the makers of Vice City but still Rockstar have a big name now ...

I found a USB gameport adaptor at this website

www.rockfire.com.tw

it is the RM-203 Does anyone have one out there ???

I dont know if it will enable all the 10 buttons on my MS Freestyle Pro or Gravis Xterminator.....

Does anyone know ? if it only supports 4 buttons it is no use I think as it costs NZD $45 which is pretty steep.

w00t (http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?cookie%5Ftest=1&catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F004%5F002%5F012%5F000&product%5Fid=26%2D164)

And that RM-203 says it has a 4 modes, which can be toggled by a switch, in efforts to create maximum compatibility with various hardware. Not "only supports 4 buttons.."

Have the same problem using a USB Gravis Aftershock. However, the scrolling only affects the menu.

If you hold the stick to the left/right the scrolling will stop and let you use the keyboard to select Game mode, level, etc...

Once you're in the game, the controller works as it should!

Hopefully this info will help some.

Here's the response from Take2.... at least they are aware of it !

QUOTE:
Thank you for contacting Take 2 Technical Support.

We have also seen this issue with the game and believe it may be an issue with the drivers for the Joypad, as some USB joypads have this problem too.

Therefore, try updating the drivers for the Joypad/Joystick and try again.
Also, if you are using a USB Convertor Controller which is used to connect two controllers, try removing the second controller device from the Windows Device Manager.
Then try the game again.

Unfortunately, we do not have a list of compatible/in-compatible Joypads/Joysticks for the game or any game updates to resolve any known issues at present, therefore
any issues you have, please send to us for testing.
UNQUOTE:

Sure do hope they can sort it with a patch.

cheers
