PS2 Memory Cards. . .in PSX Mode

Do they not work? I'm looking at the memory card in the slot and it's telling me that I dont have one in the slot. I have a v7 ps2 with a magic 3.1

EDIT: Ok appearantly its this way on all PSX bckups so does the PSX mode emulate EVERYTHING including the non-upwards compatability of the PSX-Memory card?

You cant use ps2 memory cards for ps1 gamesaves. You have to put a ps1 memory card into the slot for it to work.
