i've been looking into this lately cuz i wan't a hdd for my ps2
it apears that with a non sony hdd just a regular one (with the hack obviously) you can backup your game saves to the hdd, but it can not be used as if it were a memory card
i've only heard of a couple of games (japanese) that allow you to install the game to the hdd for faster loading and maybe game saves, not so sure.

I think you may be thinking of X-Port memory manager. That lets you do those things. Also, on amazon.co.uk there is (or at least the last time I looked,) a zip drive for PS2...

Yep. Here it is...
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005NKXB/ref=br_lf_vg_h__16/202-3704175-6571028

And the X-Port thing is here:

yes using x-port/sharkport you can backup your saves to a pc, but it's easiest to have a hdd on your ps2

I would love to have a HDD for game saves but bighap said it cant be done. Thanks for the web link lufcfan, it would be so nice to have a large game save media sorce like a zip or better yet a HDD. kooldraco I was thinking of doing the 3rd part HDD with hack but only if I could use it for game saves. I dont really care to install games to it.

Lik-Sang.com (http://www.lik-sang.com) is having a sale on their Interact MegaMemory Manager Plus here (http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=0&products_id=3112&).

Apparently it uses compression to double the space on your memory card.

The main thing, though, is that it enables USB storage devices, much like that ungodly expensive X-Zip drive.

So you can connect a USB Zip drive or external hard drive to your PS2. I wonder if it works with USB pen drives.

Best thing is that it's only $5 (plus $7 shipping).

So if I had x-port/sharkport and a HDD I could back up my same saves to the HDD and when I want to use them I would just transfer them back up to the memcard again. Right?

x-port/sharkport allows you to connect your ps2 to your pc through usb ports and it allows you to store game saves on your pc, you can also download game saves from the net and transfer them your mem card
