Most movies are under 2 hours. So no lost quality in the back-up. Even 2 1/2 hours is doable.
But some are are up to 3 hours long, on just 1 DVD9 disc. Saving Private Ryan was 2 hours 50 minutes. And a DVD2ONE back-up looked like a VCD in some places.
Fellowship of the Ring...3 1/2. But upon buying the Extended Edition of it. It came in 2 DVDs, 2 hours long. Back-up possable. Joy.
I already ordered the new Two Towers. And wish to back it up, before they get home in a few weeks. So they can keep the copy in thier room.
Is there any way to "split" a movie into 2 discs? To save quality.
Yep. Dvd X Copy will do it for you in a few clicks.

Any other than DVDXCopy. I tried to install months back, got some install error. So i went with DVD2One. I should try again since my last format.
But if the same, any other than DVDXCopy?
Im looking for just the movie backed-up...drop in thier PS2 and play kinda thing. DVD remotes are a pain with kids.
There is another way.....
It involves DVD Decrypter, IFO Edit, and your favorite DVD Burning Program.....
It is too involved for me to list here, but if you have a place that I can upload too (ie FTP server or such) I can send you a tutorial on it.....
Its about 25mb in size but will walk you through the process with no problem....

I use DVDFab to split my movies; it works every time for me. It will automatically put the DVD extras on disk one with as much of the movie as possible then just put the rest of the main movie on to a second CD or even a third!!
I did have a little trouble getting hold of it as the software writers of DVDX copy bought them out recently, if you struggle let me know.

Thanx Slick. DVDFab worked perfect on my test of Saving Private Ryan(2hours50min). And i found it online fast..(and free). The image files were set up different, than what im used to seeing. But Nero burned em just the same. So i will use it for spliting discs.
Thanx for replys all, and solving my prob.
