Hello everyone

I am new to the backup world as i have never tried to. I just bought a ps2 2 days ago and was wondering if it is possible to make working ps2 backups with just a cd-r/rw and do i need a mod chip. If so could you reccomend me the software to make copies and a reccomended modchip.

Cheers:)

If u plan on backing up your ps2 games then yes you will need a mod chip no matter what the media u use.I use recordnow DX to back up my games. I reccomend DMS3 or Messiah 2 Pro mod chips.

Yep, I'd recommend a Messiah 2 Pro and use higher quality CD-Rs (Less strain to the PS2 laser). Also I'd invest in getting a DVD Burner. Preferably Pioneer A05 or A06 (I have a A06 External Burner). Ritek DVD-R media. RecordNow is great for both CD and DVD backups. CloneCD and Alcohol 120% is good as well, I use Nero (Some seem to have a problem w/ it, but it works fine with me :D ). Hope this helps :D

I'd steer clear of DMS3. The results from Charlie's tests in the stickies above are very dissapointing. Maybe they should have thought more about booting the backups before adding all the crappy, useless, expensive features which no-one uses. Hell, my old Messiah boots games first time, every time which the DMS3 doesn't even try to boot. Stick with the Messiah 2 PRO...

It has been much improved since Charlie reviewed it. Hopefully there will be a review of the v2, which is much better.

Oh sweet you got he new model with progressive scan and IR sensor. Unfortunately there is no mod that is compatible with your version, v9, they are working on it though. It will be here soon.

Progressive scan basically gives you a better picture quality than you would get with a regular dvd player. You have to have an HD tv to take advantage of this though.

The IR sensor is for the PS2 dvd remote. Old ps2 versions required you to plug one into your ps2, taking up one of your slots. This new version also lets you power on and off your PS2 with the remote and also open and close the tray with the remote.

You have much to learn young grasshopper. dvd-r, dvd-rw, dvd+r, and dvd+rw are all types of recordable dvd media. This is what you burn a majority of ps2 games to.

I have not heard of this mod until today but this web page claims to have a mod that will work on the V9 PS2. Its called the Mars Chip 2
