I am running XP Pro SP1 +WMP9 and am trying to use the Divx codec (5.05) to encode video files. When I try and use an application like virtualdub or showshifter to encode files the Divx codec does not appear in the list of available codecs in the above applications. The Divx codec appears in the list of codecs in the XP Pro control panel and Divx encoded files play ok. I have seen postings on another website that say MS is blocking the use of 3rd party codecs in XP Pro that could violate their copyright. The other machine I have has XP Home on it and it works fine. Can anyone confirm this or do I have an install problem?
Did you install Divx PRO?
You need the professional ($40) version of the codec in order to encode. :)
MS isn't blocking ANYTHING.

I did install Divx Pro on both machines. The machine with XP Home works fine but the machine with XP PRO will not let me encode. Any other suggestions?
Umm...
Did you BUY it, or are you using some kind of keygen? I'm not asking you to admit to warez, but to be aware that the folks at Divx.net are pretty wily... much like CDRWin, where keys and cracks make it SEEM to work, but every 3rd disc is burnt wrong.
Otherwise, I have no real suggestions other than that IF you have a legal license for Divx5 pro, to go to their forums, they're VERY active and VERY helpful over there.
