Ok, I'm a noob... (just as a warning)

I've been reading the stickies, the newb guides, doing searches on topics, etc in the forum, and I've got a question that hopefully someone can answer.

My PS2 is the USA PS2 NTSC SCPH-30001, and from the version reference charts I've checked out, it seems to be a v1 board.

I recently went to a shop to get my PS2 mod'ed and was told it's not possible. From what I've been reading, this seem a bit strange?
Are there specific models that the Messiah2 DOESN'T work? According to the messiah2.com website, it seems like almost every PS2 version is covered...?

Help... I'm... confused *:/

Whoever told you that is full of sh*t, but in a way it is a good thing. Modding a v1 is not in your best interest. v1 ps2s had terrible lasers, as a result, they do not play backups well or at all. You are best off selling your v1 and buying a new ps2.

Definitely. Lots of places will buy yr old PS2 plus kit and will also sell second hand ps2's. Try and get a version 5 or above ( preferably a version 7).

Also there's a slim chance when u buy a second hand one that it's already been chipped. U never know!!

Thanks for the advice guys, appreciate it *:)
It never really occured to me to just sell it and buy a second hand one. That's actually a darn good idea.
Thanks again!

I see, just wondering. I suppose it'd be best to get a newer version ps2. Just bought another ps2 (V7) for $135. Not bad, wouldn't mind getting one a little cheaper.... oh well, good luck! :D
