I downloaded the guide for disassembling a PS2 here (http://www.ps2newz.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3520) .
However, in all the guides I've found, I haven't found one that says how to remove the bottom metal guard on the bottom of the motherboard.
I have the entire motherboard away from the case and DVD-drive.
However, I can't seem to peel the metal guard away from the motherboard. It just won't give.
I've removed the upper metal guard with no problem.
Can anyone tell me what's keeping the bottom metal guard there, and how I can remove it?

By the way, I'm in the middle on an install right now (DMS3), so any replies (even guesses) are appreciated.
My guess is that the heat sinks are stuck to some chips (the processor?) with some kind of paste.
If so, I don't want to pull so hard that I yank a chip out.

There should be 1 screw that holds the heat sink on. I just modded a v7 and that's how it was secured. I wouldn't try to yank it off...
Check this site to see if the disassembly instr. are different than what you have:

Ever figure this out? I'm going through the same problem, I have nothing left to disassemble but the metal shielding with the heat sinks, they look to have no way of separating.

after removing the top cover or the motherboard (the one with all the tiny screws) there are no more screws left, all it is the heat sink itself it's kind of like a sticky play-doh thing, usually by just pulling apart from the opposite side of the heat sink they will come apart.

I can boot orig DVD movies with the chip turned off, I assume I can do the same for orig PSX games, but the copied PSX and DVD movies still wont play with the reset for 2 second method

hmm.... you can turn off the chip, but you can't switch to psx/dvd mode... that's kind of weird. I would check the reset and the scex wires and make sure there properly installed, check for cold solder joints and make those wires as short as possible.

Yeah it's not really a big thing, I bought the chip for PS2 backups anyway... and I can play original DVD and PSX.. just not copies.. shoot I can always bring out my old modded PSX for that, and DVD movie copies are cake

actually you don't even need a mod to play dvd movie backups, they act just like originals on the ps2 or any dvd player.
I don't really use the psx engine on my ps2 either, the only psx game I play is imbNES (a nintendo emulator) which is a cool emu cuz it runs roms at full speed.
