View Full Version : Why won't my DVD Burner See blanks?
I have a Pioneer DVR-105s Burner. It came with a Pioneer DVR-R and a DVD-RW blank. I can put the DVD-R blank in and my system (Windows XPsp1) reads it OK. However I have tried several other brands of DVD-R & DVD+R media and my system acts like there is nothing in the drive.
Help.
Technically there is nothing in the drive until you burn something onto the disc.
And it will NEVER see +R media.

Firmware upgrades usually add the capability of detecting more brands of blanks.
So make sure you have latest firmware.
Don't just rush to download the latest firmware........
Some of the newer firmwares prohibit what your drive can and can't do.....
Also.....

Why are you trying to use +R blanks in a -R burner?
That's all good information. I was trying to use DVD+R just because I tried everyting eles. Maybe I am expecting the DVD-RW device to act like a CD-RW device. When you put blank media in a CD-RW drive the computer recognizes that there is blank media. When I put a blank DVD-R in the device the computer tries to read it, but then never recognizes that blank media is in it. Again not all media, it reads the Pioneer media. I checked Pioneer and I didn't see any firmware updates for this unit.
Sounds like a picky drive.
1. Only use the media the drive supports (i.e. -R)
2. Update the firmware.
3. Check with the manufacturer to see what media brands they support.
