I have a LG-8400b (40x12x40) CD-Writer, firmware 1.02. The mimum writing speed is 8x. I tried to burn Wipeout Fusion on a Philips CD-R90 HighCapacity, but the laser cannot read the CD. After the Playstation2 screen the CD begin spinning faster and faster making such a big noise that I have to reset the Ps2.

Only one time the game started, now there is no way. Is it the media (Philips) that is not ok or the burning speed? The problem is that with my writer I can't go under 8x...

Can anyone help me?

I think it's the burning speed...

If I burn at more than 4 speed my ps2 won't read the disc.
1 or 2 speed is acceptable for the ps2

SCPH-39004

I use Philips CDR-90. I have a doubt: The image of Wipeout Fusion I've burnt is 802 MB... maybe it's a problem of overburning, because I've burnt other games of about 790 MB and they are OK.

was it a cd game or dvd game?

a dvd game. It is ripped.

it might be your chip or over burning i think most chips will only work up to 80 min

But the laser of some PS2's have more trouble reading cd's or dvd's.
Maybe it's the combination of which cd on which speed.
I've got a ripped game of a friend of mine burned on 12 speed on a Arita and that works fine but my own cd's only work when I burn them on 1 or 2 speed.
But I haven't tried cd's over 80 min.

I would class burning a game at 8x to be slow and should work.

I have no problems burning games at 32x speed and i dont use any special or good branded names for my cdr so im sure if your using Phillips it should work.

Sounds like a bad image maybe.

My PS2 doesn't recognize Philips.
If I use Maxell I don't have any problems.

The difference between the Philips and the Maxell is that if I hold the cd's into the light I can see through the Philips but I can't see through the Maxell.
I also use cd's without a brand and those work good and also with these cd's I can't look through them if I hold them to the light.

Philips are made by Imation Corp. and are pretty crap to say the least. Get yourself some Verbs. The CD's won't help but I think it is probably the overburn...

Thank you for your answers.
Inthe meanwhile, I burnt other games and I noticed that with the same Philips CD-R 90 I havent'got any problems burning 8x if the images are under 800MB. I had problems only with Wipeout Fusion (802 MB) and Tenchu3 (806MB), which don't work on my ps2. So I think it's a problem of images over 800MB, that my PS2 cannot read, even if the capacity (it is what CloneCd says) of Philips CD's is 807 MB (so it shouldn't be overburning if the image is under 807MB).
I tried to search for 800MB Verbatims but I cannot find them... do they exist?
I was thinking about buying a 100min/870MB cd... do you think PS2 can read it?
