Has anyone been able to make a working back-up of this game? I have backed up over 20 dvd games with recordnow max. But the Tomb Raider game just goes to black screen and doesn't load. Tried Nero and dvd decrypter also with the same result. The dvd is in perfect shape with no scratches or prints.

What Chip do you have, that always helps us figure out the problem...

It is called the starchip. It is a copy of the neo 2.2.

I have a working back-up (but I didn't make it) and it does stay at the black screen for a long time.

You mean if I wait long enough it will boot? I only waited for a few seconds and just figured it was stuck. Please clairify

Just to let everyone know the Starchip which is Neo 2.2 chip clone. Will not boot Tomb Raider-Angel of darkness. Made a back-up and it worked on my buddy's Messiah but not my Starchip. Anyone else have any trouble or find a solution?

Games that have probs backing up with Nero can be fixed by using RNM instead.

sublime90
27-06-2003, 23:04
i would use RNM but for some reason RNM doesnt want to accept the fact that i have a dvd burner. it only reads my cd burner but nero and my other dvd burning programs recognize it.

What burner? Did you try the px engine update here (http://support.sonic.com/Downloads/engine.asp)

I have a version 7 console with the no solder plugmod installed. I have had no trouble backing up ps2 dvd games and playing them until AOD. I have made coasters with dvd decrypter and cdrwin refuses to read the track. Any sugestions?

Update on the issue with the backup of TR:AOD. As I said in my last post, I have a v5/6 PS2 with an R-mod (no-solder modchip), and use the Gameshark 2 for the swapping function. For ALL of the backups that I have, the "normal" procedure is to select "Without codes" as part of the Gameshark 2 "swapping procedure", however, this was NOT working for TR:AOD. So, as an experiment, I decided to select "With codes", and VOILA! it worked without ANY issues! I have confirmed this to work with ********************** and a backup of the original title. FYI: ***************** and the backup of the original title were burned with Nero and the Philips DVDRW228 burner (DVD+R/+RW) at MAX speed using Fujifilm DVD+R media. And, I did NOT have to use CDLOADER for anything. I hope this helps those that have similar issues and a similar setup.
It looks like gameshark/action replay users need to create a new code consisting of all 0's (zeros), then choose to play game with codes.

Same problem. I've got the no solder/gameshark mod, and when it boots up it goes right to the black screen. I've watched the black screen for quite some time now (while I'm writing this) and it doesn't look like its booting up anytime soon. At first I thought my laser was getting bad, but others booted up. Then I thought the DVD blank I used was cheap so I used an expensive one, nothing still. I've used both Nero and Primo DVD and made two perfect copies, that don't work. Is there a patch or has anyone found a trick to boot this thing up with the no solder/gameshark?

I tried the gameshark swap trick "with codes" and still no game. Perhaps you can tell me your exact boot sequence you used. This is what I am doing so far.

*Boot up the gameshark

*when the gameshark is loaded, press eject and replace the gameshark with PS2 DVD (devil may cry demo dvd)

*wait 30 seconds then goto gameshark codes, load an empty gameshark code, start game, WITH codes.

*when it asks to enter the game and press X - press X and then as the game tries to load, replace it with TR:AOD by holding down the eject button 5 seconds.

With this process, I still get the blank, black screen. Any help is appreciated.

----- a few hours later ---------

Perhaps it was a fluke, but the blank gameshark code didn't work. It wasn't until after I tried to use any other gameshark code with actual codes besides 0s in them did this finally work. Just something to watch for you people having troubles. Thanks for the tips!

My Tomb raider AOD, back up (NTSC) runs and plays fine until i try to enter "The Herbalist Shop" in the Parisian Ghetto, when the game will lock and the following message come up.

FATAL ERROR : ERROR RMX VERVION MISMATCH.

The message is in a coloured bar, that "rolls" from top to bottom of screen.

Does this mean anything to any one?

I have a messiah 2 chip installed

I bought the gameshark 2 ver 3 disc. My no solder chip came with the magic swap discs which has worked fine for all my backups of ps2 dvds until AOD. I created an entry for AOD and a cheat with all 0's with the new gameshark 2. When I try to start the game it tells me cannot load disc. In fact it won't load any of my backups! What am I doing wrong? Please help.

Hello!

I've read all your mails about booting Tomb Raider.
But I'm still not able to boot a copy of it on my PS2. I've got the NEO2.2 and AR. I never had any problems booting games before.
Can somebody please help me?
And what about this "knife trick"? Never heard of it before...

Thanx a lot!!!

I've tried backing up this game (PAL) version using RNM, Primo, Nero and Alcohol 120% using Ritek media, which i use for all my backups and each copy of AOD either hangs after the Playstation 2 on boot up or reverts back to the browser screen.

i could not get this game to work for me i made 5 copies of both ntsc and pal.

I might as well post my experience with this back up too. I have a V7 PS2 with a messiah2 and I use RNM and ritek media. Game backed up just fine and plays just like normal on my NTSC machine.

Hi all,
Forget Nero and all those other ****ty programs. I've got working backups of all the games talked about above. I use a program called B's Recorder GOLD5 from BHA. Available from

http://www.bhacorp.com/

I just select the copy option and record on the fly. Its that simple :-)

Hope this helps.

Paul

Never heard of the program but "on the fly" isn't recommended. Just a little scratch in your original or a slowdown in your cpu and you got yourself a coaster. If I were you....make an image first.

Yes, you have a very valid point !
Although with the system spec I have, I dont suffer from any "slow down" but I agree when advising others I should not have mentioned "on the fly".

Point taken.

Paul ;)

FOR THE SLIDE CARD /SWAP MAGIC USER (FOR PLAY STATION 2 VERSION 7)

WHAT DO YOU NEED :
- ALCOHOL 120% SOFTWARE (http://www.alcohol-software.com/download.php)
- A GOOD QUALITY DVD-R (LIKE SONY) !!
- SLIDE CARD AND SWAP MAGIC VERS.2 CD AND DVD DISK.
- CD LOADER 7 VERSION BETA(**)(http://www.ps2ownz.com/index.php?s=)
- ORIGINAL PSX 2 DVD GAME.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HOW TO BACK UP TOMB RAIDER ANGEL OF DARKNESS AND OTHER PSX2 DVD !!

1. START ALCOHOL 120 %
2. SELECT "COPY WIZARD"
3. SELECT YOUR READER (DVD DEVICE)

4. SELECT THE READ SPEED (MAX 2 x)
5. FOR "SEPARATE IMAGE FILE EVERY" : CHOSE NEVER SEPARATE
6. DESELECT (IF IS SELECTED) COPY CURRENT DISK ON THE FLY,THEN PRESS NEXT (DON'T COPY ON

THE FLY !!)
7. SELECT IMAGE LOCATION AND A NAME FOR IT AND PRESS NEXT
8. SELECT YOUR WRITER (DVD RECORDER)
9. SELECT THE WRITE SPEED (MAX 2x)
10. DESELECT IF IS SELECTED "DELETE IMAGE FILE AFTER RECORDING"!
11. PRESS START TO BEGIN

AND THEN BURN THE IMAGE FILE (NAME.MDS) TO A GOOD QUALITY DVD-R (LIKE SONY).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness works great using the SWAP MAGIC TRICK + CDLoader technique.

HOW TO DO the trick with swap magic/slide card :

Load your Swap Magic CD (CD NOT DVD version!!), after it loaded, use the slide card trick

and change your Swap Magic CD with the CDLoader CD you just burned, do the trick again to

close the bay. Wait a sec. Than press X on your gamepad. Wait a moment. You will get the

main CDLoader screen if you burned it correctly. You can press "Circle" on your gamepad to

change the language to english. And/or "Square" if you need to change to NTSC.
Then press the "eject" button, replace the CD Loader CD with the Swap Magic DVD and press

eject again to close the lid. (You do not have to do the slide card trick for this one !!)
Then wait a bit till the screen changes in the left bottom from media/ps2 cd to ps2 dvd,

then press X on the gamepad.
You'll get a red nebula screen for a while, and then the text
"put in a dvdr by ea method". When you get this, use the slide card trick to remove the SM

DVD disk and put your backup from your game inside, do the slide card trick again to close

the bay.
Then press X on your gamepad to start the game.
It takes a few second to load it.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
It worked okay with ps2 version 7 pal EUR.
Without patching !
I used good quality Sony DVD-R 4x speed disks
for the backups of my games.
And good quality Verbatim Datalife CDR's for the making of the CDLoader disk.
