ahhh thats ****ed up.... my IP address was changed after I restarted my machine, Never had a new IP address assigned that way (Usually get a new one after leaving my modem unplugged for a few hours)... Wankers...

Any other Blueyonder (My ISP) customers having problems accessing that site?

Not a Blueyonder customer, but here are some of the GCW mirrors for testing.

http://gcw.newcastleone.net/
http://gcw.universe-board.de/
http://gcw.f-x-m.com/

Every single one of those mirrors work (thanks for those ash), but I cant seem to get to the download screen on any of them (for example http://dl.gamecopyworld.com/dl.cgi?BlupiMania-2-v1.0e-noCD!rar)

Having spoke to some other Blueyonder subscribers, it appears they can use it fine.. Could my IP be banned from Gamecopyworld?

Maybe some kind of firewall on your side or your ISP side?

Hey Bounty, do you have a popup killer active ? If so, try disabling it. If that doesn't work I have no idea what will...

JoyBoy
27-06-2003, 02:57
Nope, nothing like that is running at all...

I blame my Gamebuzz problems on your temp. host, Lycos. I blame my GameCopyWorld problems on this bastard IP Change..

Well, all I can think of is unplugging your modem until you get another ip. People have been ip banned in the past, and if it was someone with a dynamic ip like you, it's possible you got the banned ip assigned this time. If changing your ip works, we'd better ask Empire to unban that ip. Another thing, are you using your isp's proxy server ? If so, can you bypass it ? You might want to try to go through another proxy anyway and see if that helps.

Hehe your funny when you mad...:p

I don't have response on the temp....it's mostly the host (lycos) or the client (you).

Do you have another computer at your house you can try? Would be nice to point the finger at your computer or point the finger at the internet.

JoyBoy

I'm positive this is all related to my IP address...Before Tuesday (when my IP changed), nothing had been installed/uninstalled to/from this machine...

I'm just gonna leave the modem unplugged all night tonight and see if Blueyonder have given me a new IP in the morning..

Thanks for everyones input...

Just for your information, guys, I'm using Opera 7.x with pop-up windows disabled (kind of a built-in ad killer) and are not only surfing the Web without annoying bull**** but also having no problems downloading stuff from GCW. (Not that this would help BountyWarrior... :) )

Same problem for me, damn you blueyonder.

JoyBoy
04-07-2003, 08:19
We have very similar IP ranges, perhaps Blueyonder have only blacklisted certain customers from accessing the site... Flipping gay this is...

chunders
04-07-2003, 08:22
So the leaving the modem unplugged overnight didn't work eH?

JoyBoy
04-07-2003, 08:27
Nope, I was still stuck with the same IP....

In light of my recent 'promotion'... It would be ironic if Blueyonder also block access to these forums

Seriously, besides getting on the blower to Tech Support or Customer Services and demanding a new IP address (or your old one) or demanding they grant access to GCW again, I doubt you will ever be able to download from that site again.. You can still view it though via one of its mirrors. Not that that means much in this situation..

Up until I saw your post on the 'Orange' one a few minutes ago, I didnt think this was a problem with Blueyonder... Thank god you decided to post here...

chunders
04-07-2003, 08:31
Hmm, maybe I should post about it in the newsgroup, see what they say.

Or maybe I could call them but I don't want to risk getting booted off.

The site isn't illegal though so they shouldn't be able to block it should they?

Damn it, this site is one of my first ports of call.

JoyBoy
04-07-2003, 08:33
Thats exactly why I have hesitated about calling them (due to the nature of GCW)... I was thinking of posting on their newsgroups as well and seeing what kind of response I got, but to be honest, I havent bothered yet because I wanted to see if anyone else would say they have lost access to the site..

ash2dust2
04-07-2003, 08:51
If they are only blocking (whether blanket or singular) then asking them to clarify their reasoning and policy should not be much of a deal for them. But I wonder why they let you on orange, but not GCW.

As far as I know, not even AOL blocks. Thats always a good one to rub into their face.

A funky solution would be to cancel and sign up again for a new account.

chunders
04-07-2003, 08:54
Ok BountyWarrior, I just phoned them up and they claim the block isn't from their end and that they don't have a policy of blocking sites.

They claim it must be the site that has blocked a certain range of ip addresses and that the best thing would be to leave the modem off for 24 hours to get a new ip address. They claimed not to be able to forcibly assign me a new one.

Is there any way you can contact gamecopyworld admins to see if our ips have been blocked?

I felt a bit of an idiot telling them the site name but it wasn't too bad. ;)

They probably pulled it up on their end and said "This is the coolest site I have ever seen".

I have done that, but I dont expect a reply for at least two weeks, for reasons I wont say here, as people who use GCW as their main source for cracks will be upset ;)

Hmmm, I WAS told way back in September 2002 by Blueyonder, that to get a new IP all I had to do was leave my modem unplugged over night (which worked)... Now its 24 hours?, Might try that this weekend and see if I get a new IP...

I honestly dont see that working though, as my new IP was practically forced upon on me (read the thread to find how).. Until EMPiRE (the admin) now tells me differently, I put the blame on Blueyonder..

I still think you should try a second computer to rule out some kind of malicious software on your machine.
Or try your rig at a buddies house where he can get on.

Another possibility.... most providers give dialup access to their broadband accounts in case of an emergency or you're on the road. A dialup would usually give a different bank of IP addresses.

chunders
04-07-2003, 09:12
Yes it looks like until we find an answer, a proxy is the only way through.

And I really don't want to do that if it's against the owners wishes and he's blocked the ips for a reason.

This should be resolved one way or another BountyWarrior, I guess we just have to be patient.

Nice to know there's someone else in the same boat anyway, well not nice but you know what I mean ;)

ash, I have tried a different computer (a laptop as it happens), same situation... I was thinking of taking my tower to a mates house, but I just cant be bothered....I'm due to spring clean this computer (read: format) soon, perhaps that will get any rogue crap off, but as I have said before, I'm positive this all relates to my new IP...

I am from the UK and I am on blueyonder, it dose work.

For email purposes, there are blacklists that contain modem pools. This means that you can use such a list to block every mailserver on a dialup, since they often get cracked/infected and such... I think Bounty just got a ip that was used by a zombie, i.e. a hacked pc that is used for all kinds of malicious stuff. Changing the ip should work, though I think it's retarded that you have to keep it 24 hours unplugged. Maybe you can ring them up and ask them to specifically give you another ip ?

JoyBoy
04-07-2003, 12:16
OK, Looks like I'm gonna have to leave my modem unplugged for at least 24 hours soon...

Thanks for the info, Knifey

i also had same problem but its ok now and blueyonder confirmed to me that it is a certain ip range causeing the problem alot of people are haveing problems connecting to a whole lot of sites just go read blueyonder.support newsgroup :p i think it was the ip range starting with 82.

from blueyonder technical support "We do have an umbrella open regarding customers with 82 ip`s not being able
to resolve certain web sites so I need examples of pages you cannot resolve
and trace routes to these plus winipcfg/ipconfig /all details"

this is how you can open all websites "I have changed my webcache to webcache.bt.net on port 3128 and now I can
visit all the sites I had problems with."
:p

this is how to change webcahe below

I've copied and pasted the info from the www.by-users.co.uk site for you,
hope it helps

Internet Explorer - Broadband
Open My Computer.

Open Control Panel.

Open Internet Options.

Choose the Connections tab.

Click the LAN Settings button.

Click the Settings button.

Put a tick in Use a Proxy Server.

Make sure there is nothing filled in in the Address and/or port boxes. If
these are grey and you can't edit them don't worry, simply go to step 9.
click the Advanced button.

If any boxes are filled in, make them blank (click on each box and use the
Del and Backspace keys).

At the top of this window should be a line which says HTTP and then
Address and Port.

On this line only, use the following settings:

Address: webcache.blueyonder.co.uk

Port: 8080 or 3128

Thanks, Daytrader, your a star! Using that proxy worked..

I still plan to get off this IP though, especially if Blueyonder admit there are problems with it...
