I tried many times to backup dvds using xcopy and xcopy express and i keep getting the message cannot read source disc i have a reader and a writer and both drives get the same message anyone know this problem? x copy is 1.50 and xpress is 2.01. Is there also a way to backup using record now max as when i start to backup it says movie is protected, I know i can only do single sided discs using rec now max any ideas?
Have you tried more than one dvd? Is the dvd scratched up? You might also want to try playing a little bit of the dvd on your computer, thn try burning it.

I use Recordnow max all the time for both movies and PS 2 games.
First you will need DVD Decrypter or similar ripping program, then DVD2One, before burning with Recordnow Max.
Find the full guide here:

I would follow Bighap's advice and persist with the DVDXcopy programs as they are reliable and simple. Or alternatively download DVDShrink. It is also a relatively simple program to use.
Good luck

Instead of using DVD2One, you could also use IFOEdit instead and keep the original quality BUT most movies would require 2 discs...
Yep the guy's are right...
I have a tendency to think that you reader and writer are 'region locked' like most manufactured drives after 2000.
All drives are hardware locked into the specific region of manufacture (2 for euro, 1 for america,4 for aus etc:- )
Old shep was right when he said use dvd-decrypter to remove the copy protection, but also if the disc is not for you drive's specific region ie;- trying to do a region 1 disc(american) on a european drive.
The program (de-crypter) will say that your drive logical region is mis-matched...so the slower 'brute force method will be used' but i have a vast collection of region 1 discs and have not had any probs using this program.
Then you will have to use dvd2one,or dvd shrink to compress the files to make then fit on a single disc.(see the dvd ripping tutorials at the top of the page)
Just a little tip ...nero although some peeps seem to have no probs burning the image with it ..i have found that it can be somewhat unreliable...stick with recordmax now.
