DX9 enhances SafeDisc 2.7+- ???

I just installed DX9 (unwanted - indeed, GTA Vice City installed it without asking) ... result was non working backup copy of IGI2 (SafeDisc 2.8x) and Freelancer (SafeDisc 2.7x?). [Insert right disc]

Can anybody confirm this behavior?

After SystemRestore (WinME) both copies were working again.

No ... Up to now I thought, I made a well working - so called - 1:1 Backup (I think, I used CloneCD). Without DX9 (means with DX8.1b) it starts well ... with DX9 it asks for 'original CD'. Nothing else changed. Mayby DX9 exchanges CD-Device-drivers/access/something?

It's all complicated, maybe clonecd installs a kind of emulation program without you see it and directx 9 disabels it...maybe an update will work.

i'd say you uninstall the games and the possibly any cdr software that may be running emulations/virutal drives.

Reinstall the cdr soft using latest version, disable any virtaul cd drives, except for one from a new program , i.e Latest Alcohol,


then re-install your games, and pref run the backup from a cd-rom drive NOT a writer. (or use a program to hide ATIP).

this should hopefully remove any programs that maybe black listed, I have DX9 and many other cdr soft on my system, my backup of IGI2 and splinter cell work prefectly.

I have successfully burned a working copy with Blind read / write v4.5.3.82 on my laptop using a samsung sn324 drive. When I made a copy with Alcohol 120% it said insert the original disk... now it installs and plays without the original. So-much for Safedisk v2.7...

well....in my opinion there is noway that dx9 can be connected to safedisk..and there would be no posibilitiesa that dx9 can "increase" the effect of a certain protection (in our situation safedisk)......maybe there is a setting that was changed when the dx was installed..try turning back to your older version and playing the game that you can't currently play...just to check out!
