I have recently bought clone cd and had my PS2 modded with a Magic 3. I only have a cd burner, and am currious what I can actually back up. I've tried to put several games into the computer drive to copy, but the writer doesn't even recognize them. What's my next step? My burner is an Aopen CDR 2040.
Any links that will help me?
You can backup any CD-based game.

If his laser is in good shape, yes he can.

Sorry for the stupid question, but how do I tell if it is a CD based game? and why doesn't my computer or Clone Cd recognize that there is a game in the tray?

It will say Compact Disk on the back of the box and on the disk as well.
Not many games are CD based now. :)
If the bottom of the original is blue then its a cd game......
If its ANY other color, its a dvd game... (This is probably why your drive doesn't see the disc)

Arrrgh!! That's what I was afraid of. Thanks for the responses guys it definately gives me closure. It's either get a dvd writer or give up the idea of backing up these games. . . I'm welcome to any other ideas.
There is something called ripping. This will allow you to rip a dvd game with a dvd-rom and then burn it to cdr or multiple cdrs. These usualy have things such as video sequences taken out of the game. These backups are harder on your laser too. You are best off getting a dvd burner. It is worth every penny. You can get one for under $200 now.

Thanks again for the response,
I'm now searching pricewatch for an inexpensive DVD-r. What's the difference between a DVD-r and a DVD 4.7Ram duplicator? I just don't want to be taken.
If I decide to try this ripping, I've got a couple of questions
is there a good tutorial and/or library of needed files posted somewhere?
What software would be required?
thx
Sadly, ripping isn't as easy as that. There are tutorials, but ... they aren't that user friendly.
------------
There are 3 formats for recordable media.
-R/-RW
+R/+RW
and
-RAM
All are prefixed by the word DVD.
Now... DVD-R is cheapest, AND most likely to work in an older PS2. The Pioneer DVD-R/-RW drives seem to be the ones that people swear by, although I think Cendyne's cheapies (that are on special in Staples and Officemax) are also Pioneer.

i wouldnt bother with ripping.

PS2 doesnt like dvd+r too much

V5 and above doesn't seem to care whether or not its -R or +R.....
If you have a V4 or below.... Its hit or miss....
In case I didn't make it clear enough before...
DO NOT GET ANYTHING CALLED DVD-RAM.
It's incompatible with almost every device and drive out there.
