Just got a Magic 2 for free, but.........

i've done a fair bit of modding but it's only with the xbox. but just last week a buddy gave me a magic 2 mod for a V3, which is exactly what mine is.

so i blew the dust off the PS2 and opened her up. it's definatly going to be tougher to sodder than the xbox. (any websites with tips)

but what i'm wondering is how obsolete is the magic 2?
should i just toss it and buy the magic 3.1?
also what can the magic 3.1 do that the magic 2 can't, meaning are there some games that won't play on the M2 cuz the bios is out of date or something to that nature.

V3 is bad console,. with bad laser. not worth hassle.

see modchip reviews at top of forum, best mod is V7 with Messiah 2.

no hassle here, more like a hobbie. you know smoething to mess with.
plus i already have the V3 PS2 and it's not like i can trade it in on a V7.
so the question is will the Magic 2 play all the latest games or will i have to go with a magic 3 or messiah 2

Magic 2 will play everything except DVD9 games (such as they are - you can search for that) and certain DVD Rips depending on how they are ripped.

It's an OK chip for the v3.

what is a dvd9 game?
i have a DVD-r and i've never heard of that unless it's a dvd+r and not a dvd-r 4.7G

A DVD9 game is a disc which contains data above 4.7GB. It cannot be copied straight to a DVD-R and needs to be ripped.
