I am trying to backup Socom on my DVR-105 with RNM and keep getting this error at 54% complete

The entire error is:

Px Engine Error (command:28 sense:03 ASC:11 ASCQ:05) Reading from the dics.

I tried updating my PX Engine but that didn't work. Any other suggestions?

My memory is hazy on the error codes. I think this one refers to an irrecoverable read error on the disk from which you are copying.

Try cleaning it or look at it for visible damage halfway along.

Hi all again - I have had 2 previous successful copies of playstation 2 games using Stomp RecordNow v4.5. I have installed the latest PXEngine update and also the A05 Firmware update thinking this may be the problem. The original game plays fine in the Playstation 2 as tested it. I have also cleaned the DVD disc. Is there another Image Burning program I can try to drop the imagine to harddrive before burning.

Any help would be greatly appeciated.

YEAH - Got it to work by using Alcohol 120% and following the Instructions at LUFCfan's site for burning PS 2 DVD - man this guy knows his stuff and works.

So my advice to you wahooman63 do what I did. I got the same error as u trying to drop the image to harddrive using Stomp RecordNow. Use Alcohol 120% latest version - worked excellent and without any hassles.

What, pray tell, is the PX Engine exactly? I saw a place to download it, but I'm not sure what it's for...?

The engine update provides product updates, fixes, and new CD and DVD recorder support.

Oh ok. I'm still unclear as to why Stomp doesn't provide their own updates (I downloaded my PX Engine update from a fansite).

Try making a Global Image via your Dvd Burner (i.e. A04/A05 for example to make the image file to your HD, as i had the same problem as you when i used my normal dvd-rom reader to make a image.

Here is what I've tried:

Tried making image and burning w/ Nero. Was able to burn but backup does not work.

Tried using Alcohol to make image w/ my DVR-105 and my Sony DDU 1621 and both stopped w/ an error

What should I try next??

Ok wahooman63 - As I said I got exactly the same error as u using Stomp RecordNow Max. I have the same burner as u Pioneer A05 -DVD. I tried Nero and that was a no go also - image burned but backup failed to play properly and seized.

When I used Alcohol I dropped the image to the harddrive NOT by using my DVD Rom Drive this time but my Pioneer AO5 -DVD, then took the game out and inserted blank -DVD and worked perfectly.

Have u disabled ALL programs that r running in your taskbar before using Alcohol ie antivirus software etc etc. Right click your task bar and go into Task Manager and end process of any applications in there that might be running in the background. Whenever I copy a game I always disable all programs that r running and dont use the computer at all whilst its copying or burning the image.

This is all that I do and it worked for me using Alcohol. Actually burnt another game today and it worked using Stomp RecordNow Max so that is cool but if get that PX error again I have my backup program Alcohol to resort to lol.

Hope this helps in some way.

A question for you 'wahooman'. What is your drive set-up? Example, what IDE channel are your drives set on (i.e. Primary or Secondary) and master or Slave?

It's recommended that you connect your pioneer burner as a Master drive on the secondary IDE bus with nothing else connected with it. And also enable (DMA) via the control panal properties for the IDE channel instead of (PIO), as that can sort out certain problems if you haven't already done so.

They do supply the updates......

Stomp Updates. (http://www.stompinc.com/support/downloads.phtml?stp)

The PXEngine update is about halfway down the page.

I want to thank everyone who tried to help. It turns out there was a simple problem....I'm sorry to say it was too simple.

I got a different copy and it worked fine. Apparently there was some unseen damage to the DVD.
