View Full Version : which Action Replay do I need?
I've got a PS 2 PAL (30004) with a Neo 2.2 chip, do I need a certain version of Action Replay 2 or will every version boot DVD-R /DVD-RW ?
So far I used DVD-Region X to boot CD-R media, but it doesn't seem to work with DVD-R, ist there any other way to boot DVD-R media with a Neo 2.2 except using AR 2?
GS2 works as well. The new AR2 they sell in stores don't work. Have a read of the boot procedures sticky.
I couldn't find a GS on eBay, but if I get you right any AR 2 version besides the newer V 2 ones will do?
The sticky says, that in order to boot a DVD-R I need an original DVD Game (High Toc).
Can I take one game, Gran Turismo 3 for example, and boot any DVD-R backup I like to play or should I always swap with the corresponding original, e.g. MGS 2 original > MGS backup, DMC 2 original > DMC 2 backup?
You can't boot a backup with the original game. The TOC needs to be HIGHER than the backup you are booting, NOT equal to or smaller than the TOC of the backup.
the best toc to get is devil may cry demo or original it will boot all dvd-r games
Actually you can boot a backup of a game with its original. So yes, an equally sized game will work. No gamesharks on ebay? You are mistaken. Look here (http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?cgiurl=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2Fws%2 F&MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&query=gameshark&categoryid=&ht=1&st=2&category2=11320&SortProperty=MetaEndSort&BasicSearch=&from=R2&catref=C3)
thx for the fast and useful help yall ;)
I have to add the obligatory advice:
If you're about to drop god-only-knows-how-much on a GS2 from Ebay, why not get a new chip? Magics suck, but they're CHEAP (less than $20 in many cases), boot WAY more games than the GS2 combo, and won't kill your laser.
Now, if you can't solder and don't know anyone who can, that's another thing. But you installed your Neo, didn't ya?

I bought my PS 2 with the Neo 2.2 already installed. Thanks for the advice though, I'll check on how much a Magic mod would cost me round here.
Oh ah. Well, undoing a Neo2.2 is... err... easy. Just sop up 4 solder points and take it out. :)
Now, INSTALLING a Magic, Apple, or Messiah2... is a teensy bit more difficult.

@Gurm:
I'll stick with the Neo and just get me an AR 2. They sell the old versions for bout 12$ and I don't have to pay anyone to solder the chips in and out. Btw, can anyone tell whether DMC 2 and Suikoden III boot with AR 2 + Neo 2.2 ?
Don't keep your fingers crossed.
Also be aware of the limited lifespan of your PS2 once you start running DVD backups with that Neo.
Good luck!

Just got me an AR 2.
It is version 2.30 but the boot method shown in the sticky hasn't worked so far.
I'm using Virtua Fighter as original swap disc to boot Devil May Cry 2 but after inserting my backup I get the "No PS 2 disc" message.
Is the problem due to Virtua Fighter or should I try another way to boot? The DMC 2 backup was made with Record Now Max (I followed the backup sticky) on a Ritek G03 DVD-R.
I've just found another website showing a boot method with David Mirra BMX 2 codes. This methods says that there should occur an error saying "too much codes enabled" but instead the TOC original boots?
