I think i've a ps2 v4 fitted with a neo 2.2 which is having problems booting DVD-R's. I've spoken to someone who can fit a new chip for me but they tell me that they don't do a messiah in a v4 as they tend to play up. Instead they will do me a flip top but I'm not too keen after reading other peoples comments. Does anybody else have a v4 with messiah or magic?

Also, does anybody know of anybody in the Blackpool/Lancashire area of UK who can do me a chip?

Hi mate,

unfortunately I am not living there, I am in OZ, but one thing is why you want to put messiah 2 on PS2 v4, actually all version earlier than v5 can use magic3 or messiah2 clone or accessor 2.5 without any problem, I've done 10 almost and they are all version earlier then v5 and they are working good,

if people having problem with magic3 or any other crap chip, its true actually for PS2 starting from v5-v8, the chip become really crap if using new pS2, these are my test:

Max Payne running on PS2 v3-v4 that is using messiah XS -> COOL bananas
Splinter Cell PS2 or Commandos 2 v3-v4 + messiah XS or magic3-> COOL bananas

all of threm using v5 & v7 -> very disappointed both of them RSOD

but its up to you mate...

You can absolutely use a Messiah, Magic, or Apple on your v4.

I have done Magics and Apples, and my own system is a GT3 v4 with an Apple.

However... did your machine USED TO read DVD-R and now it isn't? In that case you've degraded the laser and need more than a new chip.

But if you've NEVER gotten a DVD-R to work... then yes a new chip will help. It's very hard to boot DVD-R with Neo2.2, which is why Neo2.5+DVD was released... but both of those chips are BAD on your laser when reading DVD's. :(
