View Full Version : slide card and swap magic disks
has anyone used the slide card method to boot DVD-r games. I am trying to find a nomod method that will allow PS2 to read DVD-R disks.
Also I have a DVD burner with my powerbook G4 and plan on burning DVD straight (1:1). Do I need to manuipulate the DVD image in anyway before I burn it?
No special trick is needed to burn the DVD's. Just make sure to read it to the hard drive FIRST. PS2 DVD games HATE being copied "on the fly".
Especially on a *cough* Mac *cough*.
As for the no-mod method... you're SOL. There is no no-mod method that works for more than a smattering of games.
Sorry.

is there a list out there that tells which games would work with the slide card or flip top. I have Soul Reaver 2 and MGS2 (not substance).

As you may already know, the best advice anyone can give you is to get a no swap mod installed - it will save you time for sure and possibly money too, eventually. However, regarding your posts...
It isn't the swap method (be it cog, LH, knife, flip top/lid, no solder or whatever) that's the constraint, it's the boot disc.
There are currently about fifteen DVD game 1:1's that don't work with the swap magic v2 DVD boot disc in V1-6 PS2s, but about thirty that don't work with it in V7 PS2s.
Also be aware that swap magic v2 can't boot any PS1 or DVD9 discs, plus has issues with the majority of DVDrips.
On a slightly more positive note, I haven't seen either of the games you quoted above stated as "not working" with swap magic v2. ;)
So is there a website or something that lists what games work with what mod or no mod method?
Also i was looking at no swap modchips and the two that I see are Magic 3.6 and Messiah2 pro modchip v1.3. From the sticky it appears that Messiah is the one to go with but is v1.30 everyone is talking about? gocybershopelectronics.com has them for $45 US
The downside to no-swap mods is that you have to either pay to have them installed, or bust out the soldering iron and attack the guts of your PS2.
You can get no-solder mods, which have a small list of unplayable games...
*shrug*
I always advise to do a no-swap mod. The issue, of course, is both cost and difficulty of install.

I don't know of such a website; the knowledge I share is the result of hopping from node to node (originally via google) using their search features. Plus some personal experiences of course.
The M2Pro v1.30 is a/the most highly recommended real mod and will cost about $100+S&H US installed. Search long and hard for a reputable supplier; some of us have had problems with the one you mentioned, for example.
@ mrpatel
Look here (http://www.fileforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=47775) for a list of the games that do not work with swap magic. I am sure there are more of them now.
thanks, you all have been very helpful
