View Full Version : Copying Playstation Games Help
Hi all - nice Forum here and full of usefull information.
Im just a confused mother who purchased a Pioneer DVD A05 and had the Playstation 2 modchipped. So far i have only copied PS 1 and they worked fine on the PS2 fine with the one tap of the Reset Button.
Today I got hold of a DVD PS2 Game "Bitney's Dance Beat" and copied DVD using Nero 5.5.10.35 no problems at all using my LG DVD Rom Drive to Pioneer DVD A05. When I went to play it on the PS2 Console with the 2 taps of reset button it is asking me to "Please insert a Playstation or a Playstaion 2 format disc."
Very confusing, as thought I did everything right and had no errors whilst copying DVD. Is there Games out there that r copy protected in some way and cannot be copied at all? Maybe i have to download some sort of patch to bypass the copyright?
Any help would be greatly appreciated by u knowledgeable people here for a desperate mum who does not want to keep throwing away DVDs at a cost of $9.95 each (Australia).

what chip do you have and what kind of dvd-rs or dvd+rs are you using?
Wow snake - nice quick reply. I know it is a messiah as was told by shop that installed it, about the 1 tap and 2 taps of the reset button that is all that i need to do. PS 1 Games work excellent as do the copied dvd movies. I used my blank DVD that came originally with the Pioneer AO5 to copy "Britney's Dance Beat"- Pioneer Dvd-R whereas previously i have used Verbatim DVD-R for the movies.
Thanks heaps.

I don't know about the quality of the DVD-R which come with the drive but some people say that it isn't too good. Although I don't think it is this. Did you make an image of the game to your HDD first? If not, that will be your problem. PS2 games do not like being copied 'on the fly'. What tutorial did you follow? It may be that you did not do something correctly. By the way, RecordNow MAX is the best PS2 copying software. Download the demo at my site and install the PX Engine too (if it works with the demo version). I suggest you try and reburn the game and use a tutorial at my website @ www.mjpaul.freeserve.co.uk.
You could also try some different media (Those verbs would be a good place to start) :D
Hope this helps...
Thanks a bunch lufcfan - yes I did copy 'on the fly' and did not realise that ps2 do not like the copy function. Will go and purchase some more Verbatim DVD-R tomorrow and will go and read the tutorials at your site and download StompNow.
Thanks again.

You're welcome! Glad I could help...
I was unaware that the Messiah required a double-tap for PS2 games... but I don't own one, so someone else wanna verify this? For my Apple, I just put the game in and it plays...

@ Gurm
No it doesn't. I just put my backup and off it goes - I don't even need to tap reset. You do a double tap for DVD movies though!
OH DAMN! Carol, try this first:
1. Switch on PS2 and place britney game into tray.
2. Press eject and leave the console to boot.
YOU ARE PUTTING THE CONSOLE INTO DVD-VIDEO MODE INSTEAD OF PS2 MODE BY DOING THE DOUBLE TAP! JUST PUT THE DISC IN AND LEAVE THE GAME TO BOOT!
Ok, lufcfan.
I did what u asked above and it goes blank then it get the screen x Enter o Back with the Playstation 2 Disc at top right of screen and PS2 at top left side of screen - sorry, yes i confused everyone - i use the double tap of reset for dvd movies thought i meant to do the same with PS2 but alas still not work on just by booting normally. So will revert back to what u suggested and not 'copy on the fly' which I did do with this game.
Thanks a bunch once again.
carol:)
OK that must now be the problem. Go back to my original suggestion, but don't double tap the Reset button when you come to boot up the PS2 backup.
Thanks a million lufcfan - will let u know how i get on later on today after trying with stompnow and downloading your instructions now.
PS: Looking at your site there - you seem very knowledgeable person when it comes to PS2 and what excellent tutorials - simple enough for all to understand even basic me lol.
Thanks

If the chip is the Original Messiah..... Some will boot PS2 backups without pressing reset some will not.......
Original games (PS1 and PS2 CD & DVD)
• Load as normal
PS2 backups (CD & DVD)
• Insert game and close tray
• Press reset
PS1 Backups
• Insert game and close tray
• Press reset twice
DVD Films
• Insert game and close tray
• Press reset twice
You should ONLY have to press reset ONCE for PS2 games....
Pressing it twice boots PS1/DVD movies.....
Thanks a million lufcfan - by following your instructions to a tee from your site and using Stomp Record Now - Britney's Dance Beat copied and works perfectly - u are a champion in my books.
I bought the Verbatim blank DVDs and once copied i loaded it into the Playstation 2 Console and whamooo the game just booted in without hitting any reset button.
U made my day. Once again thanks a bundle.
PS: Also lufcfan I see that CloneDVD is out mid this month now that should be an awesome program, this should become the No. 1 program if it has same reputation as CloneCD does. They have had coming soon coming soon on their site for around 6 months so has been in the pipeline for quite some time. I use CloneCD for the Playstation 1 Games and works most excellent.
