I noticed most of the No CD patch doesn't work on my notebook which hasn't any optical drive. Since I don't know the mechanism of the patch. Doesn't the game still search for the optical drive to start the game?

Any solution? How about use virtual CD drive application?

Yes, I expect some of the game code still searches for a cdrom device. Installing Daemon Tools/Alcohol120% (even if you never use them) will still be enough to fake the presence of a cdrom drive. Try it out and see if it helps.
