Hi there, I know this question has probably been asked before, and your gona yell at me for not using the search feature, but I wanted a newer answer as peoples prefernces are variable.

Anyways I just had my PS2 modded with a Magic 3.1 and now I'm looking for a burner and the dvds to burn on.

I am not a rich person, and dont have a lot of money Im having to split the cost with 2 friends to even be able to afford one so take this into consideration.

Anyways what is a reliable affordable DVD burner which can burn movies and PS2 games well. I have heard of a few good ones, mainly pioneer, cendyne, toshiba, and sony. Please dont post links to where I can buy the stuff id just rather people tell me their opinions on why a certain one is the best bang for the buck.
Also does the medium have a huge difference on how its burned? I mean I know im going to need DVD - but besides that is there a certain brand i should be buying in order to get a working backup?

Thanks!!

p.s Im using a V5 ps2

Cendyne 105 is a good choice. It is a Pioneer A05 minus $100. Ritek dvd-r is the best to go with. Cheap and flawless. www.rima.com is a good place to buy them.

The Cendyne 105? I called a local computer store about getting one of these and he told me that its a crappy version of the pioneer 105, and that i would be better off with an A04.

Is the Cendyne good?

How much does it cost off hand?

Is there a big difference between it and the Pioneer(besides maybe price)?

What about the A04?

I hear the A06 is coming out soon. does this mean the price of the A05 will come down? So should I wait?

Off topic: Can a modded PS2 play VCD's?

Off topic: Can a PS2 play VCD's period? If yes how?

Thanks in advance.

Well, a Cendyne 105 is as you say a Poor Mans 105 (No offence to anyone who has one) but there's nothing like the real thing!
An A04 is a great choice - I have one and love it! If you have a decent CD Re-Writer and don't mind not writing DVD's at 4x (those discs cost a fortune anyway) then you don't really need an A05. An A06 is an A05 which can burn Multi-Platforms so I doubt it'll hit prices that much. An A04 must be REALLY cheap now as you can get an A05 now for about £140 but the main thing is - You're writing DVD's so I would go with either a REAL A04/A05 - whichever makes the most financial sense to you...

Oh, and as for you're last question, no, I don't think VCD can be played on PS2.

All the Cendyne is is a Pioneer in a Cendyne box. There is no difference in the Pioneer amd Cendyne. The Cendyne will even be recognized as a Pioneer by your computer. Several people on this board have the Cendyne and love it. It will runa ya about $200.
