Hey a computer store around me has a DVD-R called Smart Buy i was wondering if anyone knows if they are any good i'm kinda thinking they aren't cause they're only $8 (Canadian) for 5 or something but then again Ritek ones (if they had any here) are only like $3 / dvd so if anyone knows post a msg

I just found the site for them. Here it is:

http://www.smartbuydisc.com/index2.htm

If anyone thinks this would be a good dvd-r post a reply, also if anyone knows what a good nm is for dvd-r please post that as well.

Hmmmm, that isn't always the case. Verbatim r light purple and seem to be okay. Ritek are dark purple and seem to be okay.

It's just the name. 'Smart Buy'. Sound sh1t to me.

Stick with a brand that r tried and tested!

im just using 2x verbatim , i know there not made by ritek but they are the same colour dark purple , just to make sure i wasn't loosing it ive just got my pack of verbatim's out and my ritek and unless im totally colour blind they look the same colour to me

okay, now I confused.

I have a verbatim 2X and a traxdata here and they totally different colour.

Have just checked verbatim website and they do General purpose 2X and 4X and authoring dvd-r. Not a mention of different colour dye dvd-r so I can only asume that the general purpose all use the same dye which definitely ain't the same dark purple as traxdata.

There are different types of Verbatim. Look here (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?Sku=252763&category_id=4004&customer_id=19&c=us&l=en&cs=19), here (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?Sku=A0024194&category_id=4004&customer_id=19&c=us&l=en&cs=19), and here (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?Sku=A0095578&category_id=4004&customer_id=19&c=us&l=en&cs=19). I have used the first ones listed and they worked perfectly for me. The color is extremely close if not the same as Ritek.

Um.....Am a bit confused. U showed three different quantities of verbatim but not three different types of dvd-r.

Check verbatim website. They say nothing about doing different dye dvd-r's. Simply that they do metal azo dvd-r's. 2X and 4X and authoring dvd-r's so we must all be talking about the same product here.

PS. Scamper, check yr PM's m8ee.

The second and third "here" might be the same, as I can't see the dye of the third "here", but I can tell you that the first "here", the ones that I used, the dye looks nothing like the other. It has a dark purple dye similar to Ritek.

bighap

Nope.

That probably it then matey.

Mine have a very white inkjet printable surface on one side and dvd-r semi transparent so probably makes write surface look lighter than normal ones with silver/patterned flipside.

According to verbatim.com they only do one type of dvd-r write surface so that must be it.

my guess is they only use one dye now
but that doesnt mean they used the same dye since day 1

ps hmm verbatim uses a diff dye for there 4x disks so that makes 2 dyes they use

ottoman

cool. Sounds reasonable enough.

So where do u get the darker dye ones from dust?

i use riteks ,u cant beat them
traxdata riteks own brand,at the moment unbranded inket printable riteks g03 x2 with 1.31
everyone plays fine v4(very weak laser works with very few brands dvdr),v5,v7

www.blankdiscshop.co.uk sell many ritek g03 at a good price
a04 plus 1.31 they write at 2x £1 ish each

if u want inkjet printable version they come from diff shop and cost bit more £1.30ish each

Yeah, I use traxadata at the mo and can find very little wrong with them.

It just bugged me that everyone has great things to say about verbatim but I cannot get on with them. Might order a pack of non inkjet ones to see if they okay but yeah, for serious backups I use traxdata.

Regards and thanx for the replys
