View Full Version : Need Help-: My PS2 now only can read CD
Yesterday when i was palying "Enter the Matrix", suddenly the game's background sound is looping..and i ignore it until the load screen come. At the loading screen, my PS2 take about 5 minutes to read the disc (DVD) but still canot read the disc.
So I try to restart my PS2 (FYI,my PS2 is using the Origa Chip and use the AR2 swap method) and now my PS2 unable to read any DVD disc.
I try to read a PS2's CD, PS1' CD and also audio CD .. and my PS2 able to read it. WHen it come to DVD disc, either is DVD 5 or DVD 9, the PS2 fail to read....
May i know what happen to my PS2?
Izzit my lens problem or the chip problem?
thanks in advance

sounds like ur ps2 craped out alot of ps2 do that they just stop reading dvd games dose it give a disk read error sony is bad about haveing problems with systems doing this alot of people on ebay sell there systems that r broke that do the same thing u could try getting another laser installed but thats hard to do if u dont know what ur doing . and so much for sony fixing it they wont fix systems that has a mod installed maybe if u take out the mod then send it to sony they may fix it say u bought it off ebay as a working system and u got screwed and it dose not work they fixed mine for free cause i told them that :) or 2nd do the wal-mart switcharoo buy u a new system carefully open the case with out damageing the void sticker take the insides out put ur old insides in the new systems case and the insides from the new system in ur case take back and get a refund :) or 3 u can just buy u a new system heard aftr the 15th price said to drop to
150$ for both ps2/xbox and belive me the chip was not the death of this system cause alot of non moded ps2 do the same thing
What version PS2 do you have? If it is a version 1-4 then odds are that your laser has crapped out. This is even more likely the case if your system sloewly started to take longer and longer to read DVD then stopped. If it was more of a sudden thing there is the possibilty that it is the BA5815FM chip. 99% of the time though it is the laser.
Sorry,i duno which version is but my PS2 model is SPCH 30000 . On the bottom of the machine, it have 8 screws.....which version do i have ?
my PS2 stop to read all DVD suddenly, after i played the game.
I pop in my DVD9 movie, the system also fail to load.
After i pop in DVD in the system, after waiting sometime , about 1 minutes, in the menu screen, sometimes i get "Loading disc..." or "Read Disc Error"
Sounds like a version 4. What is the date code and the first two numbers of the serial? If you had been noticing longer and longer loads with DVD then it would be the laser. A sudden failure points elsewhere. Have you tried a cleaning disc?
My PS2 serial number is J9624215
I did not notice any slow or longer load with DVD. It all just happen so suddenly...
Yes,i do clean it with cleaning disc but my PS2 still canot read only DVD disc :(

1 u could extend life of your laser by having the dvd pot tweaked(more u tweak it soonerr it will dye all together
2 get new laser
Thanks..

how do you not damage the void sticker?
" Damage the void sticker " ?
what do u mean ?
U could try a cleaning disc first. Run it through a couple of times dry first and if no luck try with cleaning fluid a few times, If that not work then take lid off ps2 and then lid off dvd drive and use Q-tip to clean laser eye again, first dry and give a go and then with cleaning fluid first and then dry, if that not work get back to us.
I have had a good suces rate with cleaning discs despite sony recommending u don't use them.

thanks for your advise dude~
today i bring my ps2 to have a look at some shop...
all of them told me that it is lens fault that make my PS2 unable to read DVD disc
Is this true?
I just wonder becasue until now my PS2 is still able to read CDs...
If it has been cleaned and still cannot read DVD then there is a 99.999% chance that your laser is fncked. You can either do a laser adjustment or have a new on installed. Your best bet would be to get a brand new one if you have the money as it will not die out on you like this one did.
Then again, if yr laser is the problem and yr gonna replace it anyway then there's no harm in doing some minor adjustment to the dvd laser intensity pot. Can't get worse than it is now and who knows, might get it firing again.
