Different DVD drives

I heard that the Xbox was made with 3 different DVD drives. Something like Thompson, Phillips, and Samsung. One of the reasons I bought the Xbox was because I read in reviews that it's DVD player was above the average. If it was made with diff. DVD drives, how do I know if I got the one that is above the average? The reason I ask this is because it kinda acts up on a couple of movies of mine.

uhh the only difference ive seen with the dvd drives is the capability of reading cd-rs
