"DVD Shrink" Question

I decided to try "DVD Shrink" and found that it successfully read and compressed a 6.4GB movie to a set of 9 files with a total of 4.22GB so that it will fit on one disc.

Question: My DVD burn program, Veritas, which came with my Sony DRU-500ax will only allow me to create a "Data DVD" while the "DVD Shrink" instrctions advise one to burn only a "Video DVD." Can someone please point me to a program which will do that? Would prefer to try a shareware/freeware version first to see if this all works with my system.

They do a fully functional demo version to try.

This program works, I've done loads of back-ups with it.

I just tried this program on the E.T. DVD and it's 7 Gig all the movie files and you can no way get that down to 4.7gb

If you are using veritas Primodvd you need to create a data disc.
Add two folders to the disc, 1 called AUDIO_TS, the 2nd call VIDEO_TS. Add all your video files to the Video_TS folder and it will record as a video dvd automatically.

as to regards with the et thing it is possible to get it to 4.3 gigs using this prog as ive done it with great results and have done bigger films like harry potter 2 which was around 8 gig i think with menus, try it you will be surprised oh by the way there is a new version of this which you might not be using which will let u reduce the film a bit further if nescessary

I have tried your suggestion for recording a video disc with Veritas "RecordNow DVD" and it works well. Not clear why I put nothing in the AUDIO_TS folder, but it works anyway.

For what it's worth, Ive always used RecordNow Max to burn backup's and I've never created an audio_ts folder with my decrypted files, either with DVD Decrypter or DVD2One. Fortunately I've never had a problem doing it that way

I don't know what that second folder is all about.

DVDXCopy never seems to create one when it is re-encoding/re authoring a movie.

Maybe someone can explain it to me one day.

I would also recommend DVD Shrink. Not just for the bigger movies but even the smaller ones where it can do a 1:1 copy like DVDXCopy (at a faster rate of course)

I always put an AUDIO_TS folder. Because some DVD players check for it. All it really does is make the dvd you just made more compatible with more DVD players.

Thanks so much for all the help and advice.

I am really impressed with "DVD Shrink" which seems to work flawlessly. I only use it if the compression is less than about 30%, as I can see no degradation of the picture at that level. I am not using HDTV, so it could be that it would show up with a higher resolution TV. I am currently viewing on a Pioneer Elite 60" projection TV which makes an excellent picture, but it is not HDTV.

Can someone give me some good references from dvd shrink? Like what is the largest movie that they have compressed nd didn't lose any noticeable qualty?

Well actually Ive noticed in a different way of looking at it that on around a 3 hour movie (including the extras time) on a HDTV you will notice a slight quality difference.

Now on a 4 hour movie (including extra's time) I noticed on a regular TV that you will have some pixel problems slightly and usually on faster scenes in the movie.

Thats about what I have noticed.
