I have a v7 Ps2 and i want to install a Messiah 2 pro.

First, what is the difference between firmwares?

When it comes to installing it, do i have to worry about messing up the ps2 with a 15w soldering iron?

Do i need to use flux? If so when and where? I ass because i have heard some people say they dont use it.

I have a radioshack soldering pencil, will that do in installing the chip?

Do i have to glue the chip and wires?

Also, please can anyone give me some tips on doing the install?

Thanks so very much.

1.30 is the latest for Messiah 2. It is supposed to be improved but there isn't really anything wrong with previous vesions. Your 15w soldering pencil is a good one to go with. Some use flux some don't. Some recommend it though. You glue the chip down but many just use electrical tape to hold the wires down. Have you ever soldered anything this small? The points are extremely close together. If you aren't experienced it is best to get a pro to do it. You could fry your ps2 if you screw up.

For most areas flux is not necessary. Only time I use it is If I have a problem spldering to a resistor or the like. Use double sided tape to hold down the chip. electrical tape or hot glue to hold down the wires. For soldering to the BIOS chip dip the tip of the wire in a little flux place the wire on the leg and touch it with the soldering iron with the slightest of pressure. Take your time and you should be OK.
