View Full Version : Tomb Raider 3 on PS2 ( again)
Okay, so I know I've asked this question before but i live in hope that someone can answer it.
I got original PSX tombraider 3. This boots fine in my ps2.
I make a backup using any copy program ( CDRWin, CloneCD, BlindWriteSuite) and it will run up on my chipped psx no worries.
The PS2 wont run it, I get to psx screen and then blank screen.
The title is obviously compatible with the ps2 cos the original runs.
The copy is obviously good as my psx will load it no probs.
So why don't the ps2 run the back-up?
It blows my 16Kb brain!!!
I have the EXACT same problem with Wheel Of Fortune 2nd Edition.... (Wifes game)......
I have tried EVERYTHING I can think of and still no luck.....
What is the full name of Tomb Raider 3, is it 'The Last Revelation'....so many I can't remember which one is which.
I have a few of the Tomb Raider games and I will try to see if I can get it to work if you let me know which one it is.
Have you tried to patch the game before burning?
It works on my ps2. The game is burned on philips media using cdrwin 3.7f and works on my V5 PS2 with Messiah 1 chip.
No. The last revelation was tomb raider 4. Tomb raider 3 was imaginatively titled 'Tomb Raider 3'. They must have been up all night thinking of that on!
Tomb Raider 1,2,4 and 5 back-ups all work perfectly on PS2. It s only tomb raider 3 that won't and can't find any patches that deal with this.

I have the exact same problem with disk 1 of (US) SF2 Collection. The game boots to the PSX logo screen and just stays there on my PS2. If try it on PS1 it boots fine.
It just seems wierd to me that the original works on the ps2, the back-up clears booting okay and works fine on ps1 but won't get there on the ps2.
Well, thanx for the feedback and replies. It would seem that tombraider 3 is not an isolated case and also that the ps2 PSX driver isn't a total emulator.

tomb raider 3 works on all 3 of my machines v4 neo 2.2 using ar2 v1.93 also v5 with messiah and v7 with messiah 2 pro , but the only psx game that i can't boot on my machines but works in my psx is the weakist link , but the original works in all machines
What did u use to back it up in order to get it to work?????
i used disc juggler put it to my hd then back to disc and used cheap media that has silver top and light gold bottoms only cost me £10 for 100 i put all my cd games on to them never had a problem apart from the weakest link but it work on my modded psx , and ive just tried it again just to make sure as i have all the tomb raider sires and it booted up fine
Waht version of DiscJuggler do u have?
I have version 4 so will give it a go.
Might have a solution to the problem after all!
By the way, is that SCEA,SCEE or SCEI version of TR3??

the disc juggler im running is 3.5, i have the latest, but ive kept to the old version as i have had no probs with it,
what do you mean by version of tomb raider 3? all i know is that it's pal

Wonder what disc juggler does that other copy progs don't do then?
Could we have found a superior copy prog??
I have used disc juggler4 to copy ps2 dvd and it is pretty good.

Has yr back-up of TR3 been patched, or is it a straight back-up?
Appologies for being a pain but this has had me wondering for a while now and it would seem that light is at the end of the tunnel.
Who knows, maybe the other games mentioned in this thread will also backup okay with disc juggler!
That would be a bit of a result and a bit of a relief from the same old questions ( what dvd-r to use etc..........)

if i can remember correctly i dont think i had to patch this one, to tell you the truth using disc juggler ive never patched any games apart from 2 and they were italian job and l.m.a manager 2002 for the psx, and on the ps2 ive never patched any cd game even ea games and burnt them all with disc juggler 3.5 and all my games work 100%, hope this is of some help

Yo ottoman did you get it to work?
Ive just had the same problem with resident evil 1, and I found out that it was my black ps2 controller that was causing the problem, luckily I had a old psx grey pad lying around, I plugged it in and Bingo! it loaded. Dont know if this'll help you but it sure worked for me
Haven't tried yet, am out of cdr's, will pick sum up 2morrow and will also try ps1 controller trick.

Okay, tried with ps1 controller and no joy ( kinda figured it wouldn't do any good as original isn't bothered by ps2 controller) so will back up using discjuggler 2morrow.

Okay. So used DiscJuggler and Alcohol120% to back it up and still no difference. The back-up works fine on ps1 and EpsxE but not on ps2.
Time to give up!!

tomb raider 3 ps1 backup plays fine here on my ps2
i had a imilar problem with either who wants to be millionaire or was it italian job both ps1
it ended up being bad read although clone said it read it correctly
6-7 attempts to get a good working image (read at 1x)
i proved my point i burned 5 disks from the good image everyone booted
cant give u more details as it was a very long time ago
try copying a diff origanal
sorry i never tested any of the non ps2 working backups on a ps1,

I backed up tomb raider III I think I used clone or alcohol can't remember which one but played in my Ps2 okay. (v7 ntsc)

Okay, this gettin annoyin now!
Right, It is reading the cdr okay cos the image runs fine in EpsxE and if I burn it I can boot the game up no problem in my chipped psx but ps2 has snags. It get past the ps1 boot screen no problem but then goes blank and just spins continuously.
It has to be an okay read and an okay burn otherwise the psx wouldn't touch it either.
I have tried cloneCD and alcohol, both didn't work.
I can only assume that the people that have backed it up were not using UK pal version original.
