Hi Guys,
Just took the plunge and bought myself a Pioneer 105 Dvd writer.

My GF bought me some blank Dvd Rw's (datasafe) from the blankdiscshop site.

I can only burn them at 1speed with nero, is this right as it says on the box, that it burns RW's at 2 speed?

Also, what is the best firmware to use when making PS2 backups?

Any other tips you could give a newby DVD burner would be greatly appreciated:)

Thanks Guys

The burner can burn at 2x, but the disks you have can only be written at 1x, so that is normal.

Advice - good cheap media that works in many standalone dvd players etc, are dvds with the dark purple Ritek dye. (RITEKG03 or G04)

Also, have a look around for modified firmwares also, I'll dig up a link if you want it. The modified firmware will allow you to burn 1x rated riteks and 2x, and it will allow you to rip protected dvds faster than the normal 2x allowed.

Either buy faster media or try using this (http://pioneerdvd.rpc1.org/DVR-105%20v1.30%20-%20RPC-1%20+%202x4all.zip) firmware.

Thanks for the fast response, appreciated:)

I'll order some of those Ritek blanks this evening, Do you think it would be wise to flash my drive, as im a bit hesitant in doing this.

Or is it relatively simple to do?

It is pretty easy. Shouldn't be a problem.

Cheers mate, I'll give it a try and report back with the outcome.
Would these blanks be any good?
BULKPAQ "ORANGE" , they are on the front page of the blank disc shop

Not sure about those, but for UK folks like yourself get Traxdata. They are tops.

thanks mate:D - I'll order some traxdata, and a pack of those BULKPAQ "ORANGE" and see how they perform, at that price though you cannot be robbed.
