View Full Version : Def Jam Vendetta: Streaming Audio Problem

I'm using a back-up of Def Jam Vendetta that, for the most part, boots and runs perfectly. No skipping during FMV. Fast Loads. Etc. Etc.

Here's the problem:
During gameplay/matches that go beyond 3-4 minutes, the streaming audio/bg-music, cuts out and the laser sounds as if it is trying to travel further than mechanically possible (towards the center, I imagine). The sound of the laser traveling is what worries me, it makes a rattling noise.

The game freezes for about 3 seconds then resumes, accompanied by the sound of the laser refocussing and the audio picking back up.

I guess I shouldn't be so nit-picky, my mod works perfectly for all of my other games (even Vice City, which is constantly accessing the disc for data).

Just wondering.

How did you copy the game? What media is the game on? What version ps2 do you have? What mod?

Hmmm.

I recorded and burned the ".gi" image using a Pioneer A05 and PrimoDVD. Used 1x speed. Once to a Maxell, once to Verbatim DataLifePlus(?), once to Memorex.

The Verbatim is the least problematic.

Where can I get information about distinguishing what version PS2 I have?

I believe I have a Messiah2 installed, though I'll have to double check to make sure.

Thanks for your help.

You can see what version your ps2 is here (http://www.freedomlives.com/ps2_version_identification.htm). When booting a backup, hold reset for about 5 seconds. This would disable your Messiah 2 if that's what you had.

It looks like I have the dreaded rev.4 PS2, though she runs fine at the moment (save for the DefJamVendetta, of course). Guess all I can do is play her into the ground.

But in the meantime, I need to look into getting another PS2 (preferably already mod'd).

BigHap, thank you much for the help. It's much appreciated.

v4 doesn't have a very good laser which can eventually lead to problems playing dvd backups. I personally wouldn't mod anything less than a v5, but that is just me.

Yeah, the v.4 is crap. If it boots a DVD-R, you're lucky. And it probably won't boot it for long.

I sold my v.4 with a neo 2.5 DVD-key for $120, and use that towards a new v.7.

My V.4 is doing okay for now, but I fully expect it to crap out sooner (rather than later).

I wish I had known about all these issues before getting mod'd... eh, one to grow on, I suppose.

By the time you get a replacement laser and have it installed it really isn't worth the price. You would be best off selling what you have and getting a new ps2.

is there anywhere online that shows you how to install the laser or how to realign or fix your current laser?

well big hap i took your first suggestion and went out and got a new ps2 i got the v7, what i was wondering was do they make a no solder chip for the v7 and if not i was thinking about getting an apple and wanted to know how that worked for you and what the most reliable place to get to install it was

I wouldn't get a no solder because you have to use the Swap Magic discs with a v7 and these discs have been proven not to boot all games. Sounds like you are loking for a cheaper route. The apple is a great chip to go with. It is cheap and very reliable.
