Hello All,
I was wondering if anyone else had experience this odd occurance. I am trying to play a DVD backup of Spinter Cell. The game boots to the menu screen, I select and new save slot, go to proceed and then BAM - Red Screen. Odd behaviour as it seems to kind of work.
Using:
Ritek GO3 at 1X with Pioneer A05
Messiah 2
Version 5 Ps2
Any Ideas....
All other games I have tried boot properly using the equipment above....
Anyone else have this happen???
Have you tried burning at 2x?

Looks like you'll have to stick to playing yr original then
:D LOL:D
PS if u using Ritek G3 X1 then ther isn't much point trying to burn at 2X.
What copy program did u use?
Whoops my bad.
I never EVER use any media that isn't rated up to 4x, so I'm unfamiliar with 1x burning practices. ROFL.

The screen has struck me as well, and on my last available DVD-R.
Burned the image to the following
Pioneer DVD-RW @ 2x
Verbatim DVD-R @ 2x
Both give me the red screen after attempting to start the game.
It plays the intro and acts like everything is going to work, then BAM!.... Pissed me off...
This was all on the following equipment :
Windows XP Pro
Alcohol 120% ( burning a .ISO image )
Pioneer A05 ( Latest firmware )
V7 Apple-Modded PS2 from Lik-Sang ( Before the fall )
Anything else? Who's got clues? I know I'm not the only one having this issue either. It's all over the newsgroups.
I knew I should've just played the PC version. heh.
Burn it onto a Traxdata dvd-R and it'll work perfectly.
everyone says try this dvd-r and that dvd-r, but really you have to have a play about with all dvd-r's, until u find the one that works best for you and your machine , i have backed this game up on verbatim and works perfect , then i bought some traxdata's, burnt fine on my pioneer a03 with fw 2.0, but when it came down to play it booted fine on all 3 of my machines, v4 with neo 2.2 using ar2 v 1.93 with devil may cry demo, and on my v 5 with the messiah, and v 7 with the messiah 2 pro, but when it came to the fmv it was so sluggish, and it would then just stall, but on the verbatim it worked 100% all the time every time, also completed the game with no probs what so ever, just my thought, i know allot of people swear by traxdata but they didn't do it for me , so ill be sticking with my verbatim's, anyway i get them really cheap from a friend ;) just wanted to try a few other brands to see how they perform , also i found neo , apple & mirror to be good dvd-r's, hope this is of some help

Point #1 : I'm in the US, so no Traxdata. Sorry otto.
Point #2 : I have a collection exceeding 100 games. I know it's not the media as it works flawlessly for everything else. A bad disc? Doubtful. The RW didn't work either ( and I've used this RW before )
It's probably just a bad image. Oh well.
U believe what U like. I've come across this problem before several times and every time it was down to type of media.
just wanted to throw it out...
tried to back up splinter cell twice:
both times using memorex dvd-r
once using nero
once using recordnow max
oh yeah, i have no solder swap magic
= 2 coasters
i might go out and grab some verbatims and give it another whirl, but prolly not since it is acting just like max payne did for me while trying to back it up...
to add to the mess about the red screen you experienced- i get to the part when i guess it is going to load my first mission (training), then it takes a pause, pulls up my browser select screen showing my memory cards and no game in the drive, then it reads again and red screens.
i will prolly just give and say this doesnt work for me
Just a small tip but avoid Memorex media like the plague. I started off with Memorex CD-R and DVD+R and they are both crap. CD-R media doesn't seem so bad but if I try to make a backup of a backup it does not work when a backup off all other media I have tried is ok. Also memorex DVD+R are the slowest reading media I have tried thus far and have the same backup problems that I had with there CD-R media. I now use TDK CD-R and Ritek DVD+R and they are the bomb.
same problem for me first ps2 game that i cant back up, used same burner software n discs as all the others,

3 Problems there:
1. u used Nero when u have Record Now Max.
2 u used memorex dvd-r?????
3. u have no solder mod. They suck!
Maximise your chances. get some decent dvd-r and then persevere with Record now max as it will back it up. ( I got it to okay)
Good luck

Can someone please help
Tried to copy splinter cell got the red screen when i tried to play the game. the game loaded the title page and options and so on but when i go to play a mission looks for mem card and goes red.
i just got the play station in december and had the chips put in (don't know what version ps2 i have if this matters. put if it does how do i find what version it is -- i would think it would be the newest since it was bought in december) i'm using sony dru-500 dvd burner and record now program.
i have the cd-r mod and the swap magic dvd 2.0 mod setup
does anyone think that it could be the media? i don't know since it is loading all the title screens and options menu then going red when i play the game. I'm going to try using a verbatium dvd+r and see if that might work (does anyone know if this could be the problem) Or has anyone had this happen before? I have read on different forums that some are saying that this is somekind of copy protect can anyone verify that this is true.
thanx
Rob
Sorry to here all the problems guys, but like ottoman said, I took image with recordnow max and burned it onto Traxdata media @ x1 and everything is working fine.
Can't really help with the problem as I normally am the one looking in here for help.
Okay, an answer. Definitely media problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have just modded someones ps2 and although dvd-r's worked fine, every ps2 cdr was doing r.s.o.d
Basically u put in a ps2 cdr, it would go blank screen for a few seconds, then come up with browser screen for about a second with message 'No Data' and then RSOD.
That was a laser issue which is now sorted but it all goes on reflectivity.
If the signal ain't reflected back then the disc don't read.
If it is reflected back badly enough then your ps2 will deny its even a ps2 disc.
