Laser... calibration...

Laser... calibration...

But seriously, you haven't given us a lot of info...

The reason I ask about the wire is that when I first started fitting chips I used any thin wire available and used to get the same problem.

Since I switched to Kynar insulated awg30 wire I get no problem.

I had great luck with Radio Shack 30AWG speaker wrapping wire, insulated. :)

I have used awg30 for the power and gnd only. The others I use lower awg wires. But I have another Ps2 version4 gap and I mod it and it works perfect with low awg wires. I think its the laser calibration cuz I cant load anything in the browser of my Ps2 except audio cd. And at Point S for version4 nogap, is it bridged there with the 2 resistor?Any advice?

The bridged question for magic installs comes up very often. They did a very poor job pointing that arrow. No it is not bridged. Seeing how this is a version 4 it is probably a laser problem. Try using a cleaning disc and see if that helps. Also test and see if the PS2 boots CD-R backups of PS2 games. This would be a very good indicator that the DVD laser is weak.

I could easily tell for the versin4 gap that point S is not bridged, but version4 no gap seems to be pointing right at the middle between the 2 resistors and something connecting to it. No only ps1 backup works nothin else.

Just a quickie.

U shouldn't be using awg30 for 3.5v or ground. U should use some awg23 multi strand wire for those.

Then use awg30 for all the signal connections.

As I said before, I've come across this problem myself. My advice is to remove the mod and get the PS2 under control in normal working operation, then reinstall with correct wire.

There is a check u could do. Try running a DVD movie on DVD-R in your PS2. The PS2 doesn't need to be modded to run these and it will tell you whether your laser is good enough to read them.

Also, the reason I am going on about the wire is that for some reason when magic is installed the laser runs slightly weaker than before so if u have installed using less than perfect wires U could be making it run a lot weaker than before the installation.

I don't think it's laser calibration because if your ps2 is noticing ps1 backups then the cd laser diode is working fine and it should also read ps2 cd backups.

If it was only dvd-r backups that weren't working then I would also suspect the laser but as it's also cdr PS2 backups then it is definitely an installation issue and I would advise a reinstalation using the correct wires.

Good luck!

i didnt knew
ps2 had 2 different lasers
one for reading cd games and other for dvd games..

i have a 30001
with magic that stoped reading dvd games
a couple of days ago..
it only reads cd´s media
not dvd
not even the original ones..

so for what i readed up
the laser is down..

where i can geat a replacement for a 30001

ok I am using 22 awg gND and 5v
than 30 awg for rest.
checked 3 times no bridges
but did left some solder in some non soldering points(no bridges)
Bridged 2 resistor at point S together
No luck
Ps1 backup works
Well I assume my dvd lens work cuz u can hear click sound.

Unfortunately the version 4 ps2 has weak lasers fitted in them.

It definitely sounds like ur ps2 laser then. U could try adjusting it but I wouldn't advise it unless u know what ur doing.

Do PS2 cd's and cdr's work?
