How to get all files from BLACK HAWK DOWN in "real" size !!!

The question is
„How to get all the files from CD to HD to add something (Update/Crack, Blood-Loader, ...) and burn it with Nero (or other)”

Here is the answer:

Copy all files and folders from CD to a folder on your HD, except these four files:
resource.pff
dfbhdi.bik
dfbhdm.bik
dfbhdo.bik

These four files are the “TO-BIG-FILES”.
OK, the “real” RESOURCE.PFF you can get by installing the game as “LARGE INSTALL”.
For the BIK-Files (Movies) use a HEX-Editor to get it to these sizes:
dfbhdi.bik - 31.000.000 Bytes
dfbhdm.bik - 11.546.624 Bytes
dfbhdo.bik - 18.000.000 Bytes
To check if the files play correct (Yes they did!) you can use RAD-TOOLS from http://www.radgametools.com/down/bink/radtools.exe. This is a player for BIK & SMK Files.

Now all the files fit on one CD-R !!!

I remember trying something similar for Task Force Dagger once, but the problem was that the install program crashed on those smaller files. So does the game install right, even with those smaller files ?

YES! It works really fine.

The only thing i've find out, is that the included fixed exe in the "Fixed Update" from Gimprus (dl @ GCW) don't work. Now i use the single downloadable fixed exe from gimprus. There are 12 changed bytes between the two exes.

NOW EVERYTHING WORK FINE !!!

if it does install.. it might give u a crc error: file is not expected size of installation or sumthin simular :P you can usually click ignore and it will contiue with installation.

hey GLH... when i copy the bik files to my hd....
it gives me an error: cannot read source from file - after about 50% of the bik files are copied to my hd....
hmm.. kno whats up?

How exactly are you supposed to resize the .bik files in a hexeditor?

I used HexWorkshop for this.

- first copy the three "too-big" BIK-Files to HD
- remove the "write-protect"-Attribute from the files (each time i copy a file from CD to HD there is this attribute set. Is it normal?)
- open the DFBHDI.BIK
- click on "GOTO" and enter the decimal offset 31000000
- now hold down SHIFT-key and press the END-key to mark "all the rest"
- then press DEL-key and answer the questions about UNDO-BUFFER and MAKING BACKUP OF FILE how you want.
- after that save the file and test it with the RADTOOLS or a player you like.

Then the same with the other two files !!!

I don't think it automatically resets the attribut when copying from CD--> HD

I used FMVextract 0.9a to "get the real bik files" (in previous Novalogic games) but a hexeditor should do the same thing:D

Why not keep it simple & just use either Blind Read / Write or Discdump to make a backup.

These are the only 2 progies ( that i know ) that can copy oversize protection & work.

Personally I use BlindRead / Write & works like a charm. Not a 1:1, but installs from the backup & simply apply the crack.....

Yes, i can make a simple backup of DFBHD. And after installation i search for the update-patch, search for the crack, search for the Blood-Patch, ...

Agree....regardless of how you copy it though ... you still have to search for patches & Updates with relevant cracks....

The convenience of placing all updates on the CD is good - however, what if 5 minutes after you've finished copying the CD your way, another patch comes out... ??

I personally keep all updates/patches/cracks on a separate CDR & update it, when the Harddrive starts to fill up.

In this, there is no wrong or right answer - its whatever tickles your fancy.

However, I was not aware of how an oversize copy protection could be done via copying / pasting so thankyou..... :) .... I've learnt something from this as well........;)

There was a time i had all patches, cracks, ... on a separate CD-RW so i was able to "update" it. But each time i install a game i've searched for this CD-RW.

I should clean my appartment....... lol
