i have a very strange problem with my favorite Game Battlefield 1942.
all works fine with v1.25 (installed with the AddOn Road to Rome).
but when i apply the Patch 1.30 or the newest Patch 1.31
the trouble begins.

when loading a map, i will be kicked back to Desktop and
the game quits with no error message. i also looked into
the Log files but there is no error stored.

i´m using the newest drivers and i also contacted EA
but they don´t know about this bug.

if someone had the same problem and solved it please let me know.

Don't tell me YOU're having problems :D What is the world coming to ? :D Anyway, have you tried reinstalling the game from scratch, then RtR, then the 1.31 patch ? Does it work without a crack then ? I've had problems in the past where I just had to reinstall the whole game...

i´m no newbie

sure i´ve reinstalled BF1942 + Road to Rome with the Patch 1.25.
all works fine with this version. i don´t use cracks for the game, i´m always playing with my original discs.
this error only appears when the game is patched to 1.30 or 1.31.

Ah, so it happens without any crack. Mmmmmm..... try changing the audio acceleration settings in dxdiag.exe. It's a slider that goes form none to full. Try both full and none. If you happen to have an Audigy or Live sound card, this may solve your problem. There were significant changes in the sound code in 1.3 and 1.31 so I suspect the sound card.

Well, as far as I can tell there's a lot of problems still with the sound code and some sound cards like Audigy. Things which used to work in 1.2 suddenly don't work in 1.3/1.31 anymore, etc. So have you tried different settings for the Sound acceleration slider in dxdiag.exe ? If I want to play Counter Strike without any mysterious mouse lag, I have to put the sound acceleration for my SB Live in Xp to 'none'. All other settings ruin my game :D

Edit : oh, and both of you, if you didn't already, try a 3x.xx driver if you have a NVidia card, the 4x.xx series has a lot of problems.

May need to do a clean install of windows. Update windows all the way. Try Direct 8 then 9.0a

Try removing as much hardware as possible.
Remove sound card.
Try different video card.

i changed the sound setting to the Max and now it works.
(22 kHz was the bug, 44 kHz works fine).

 i´ve tested it only in singleplayer and it works.
but when starting a (non dedicated) server in LAN (+bots)
the game crashes again.

maybe the next patch will help...

i have the problem too:

I reconized, that the game crashes, when you

a) started BF 1942 and want to roin an road to rome map..
b) started RTR and want to join BF 1942 Map....

EA says, that it will be cleared with the next patch

This is for me.
I can join a lan game one time.
Second time when my partner change the map. The game crash. I have to start the game again and then join. And the same thing repeat when we are finnish with that map.

I've got the impression that you can't join the LAN game at any time. It's crash to the desktop every time, or am I out and sail?
