View Full Version : Replacing Apple chip with Messiah 2 Pro
I have a V7 US ps2 modded with an Apple Chip, works great and i loved it. However, I've just got my hand on a new Messiah 2 pro chip.
The question I'd like to ask anyone who knows is: Is it worth the troubles to re-solder/replace the chips on my ps2? and are the solder point on the two chips different or are the pretty much the same?
Also, does the Messiah 2 pro allow me to play both Pal/Ntsc games without patching them? 'cause I've read the specs for the Messiah 2 that it has "True NTSC/PAL switching is incorporated".
If anyone can give me some tips on this, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx,

hey. personalily i think the messiha 2 is one of the if not the best mod chip avilable. But the apple is also a great chip. i would recomend u keep the apple inless u gotta lot of money to throw around. The points are vey different.
hope this helps...reply and tell us what u think u will do!
Well, I alread got the Messiah 2 pro, but i am curious, how do u tell if it's the pro version or just the original? I think its the 0245 batch and on the back of it is a little sticker saying "Pro version Firmware reV 1.08" and the pcb is engraved with the word messiah 2, so is there anyway to tell the different between the pro and non-pro?
Actually there is a difference of only 3 or 4 wires depending what version apple you have. All the hard to solder wires are still the same, like the ones on the bios chip. I would suggest however that you do not change it. Stick with the old motto if it ain't broke don't fix it.
Yeah keep your apple. Why risk screwing up your ps2 by doing a uninstall and another install? The apple does everything the messiah 2 does. You have to patch with the messiah 2 as well to play pal on an ntsc setup or vice versa.
Thanx for all the replies guys!
I think I'll keep the apple chip for now, until I get my hands on another Ps2 then I will install the Messiah2.
You guys still haven't answer my question about the difference between the pro and non-pro version of the Messiah 2 chip? anyone?
Definitely, as u appear to have an old messiah 2 chip, current version is 1.3 but 1.22 still acceptable.
Bighap trusts the apple so u can't get a better recomendation than that and as someone else says, if yr apple chip hasn't given u any reason to change it then why change it!!

The ONLY difference between the two....
Pro = Works in ALL versions...
non-pro = version or region specific.
Please answer my question. Do we still have to patch the pal games in order to play on NTSC for the Messiah 2? I also have a v7 modded with apple chip and I can't play pal games, therefore I am thinking of changing to messiah 2.

when u say u cant play pal games do u mean
1they boot but b/w and screen rolls?
or
2 they wont boot?
the pal game boots but it is black and white and keeps skipping (I mean the picture keeps jumping).
You can look at the thread here (http://fileforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=48180). This may help with your problem with a little soldering. Otherwise you will need to patch all of your PAL games.
I have checked both installation diagrams for the Apple and Messiah2, Most of the soldering points are the same. My question is, for all the points that are the same on both chips, can I use the existing wire from the Apple mod and solder those to the Messiah2 Pro? Will there be any prob with the wire/chip?
Shouldn't be any problems. May be a little bit of a pain to deal with because the wires will be short.
Cool, Thanx guys, I will replace my Apple with the Messiah2 then....and see which I like better....(I hate to abuse the reset button.,...hint)...
I wouldn't call a single tap abuse.:)
